Someone I work with has a S/O that bought a '07 SG last year. At about 6,500 miles the clutch discs gave out. Being a "wear item", the dealer could not warranty it. He is NOT a new HD rider, he traded an Electra Glide Classic in for it. About 2 weeks ago, one of his buddies was on a trip (about 700 miles from home) with HIS '07 SG. At 8,000 miles, he had the same failure. It's the center discs that are giving out. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
All the touring bikes have the same clutches since I cant remember when...The discs are all the same....The diaphragm spring has changed in several times in the last few years as far as the amount of pressure they excert but nothing other than that.
Improper or infrequent adjustments causes them to go. Though the book says 5K miles for a service...you hammer on the clutch and you will need more frequent adjustments. Some police bikes in a training scenario need them once a day.
Its caused by that sorry weak diapharm spring used in the easy clutch that comes standard on 07 up touring models.
I put the setup in my 02 and the clutch went out in 3k miles due to the weak spring. I had it replaced using a stock spring from a 06 back and had no more problems.

That should be an 05 and back......
the 06 has the same spring as the 07 and 08.
Sorry to hear this, I have a 07 SG, and NO problems and I'm a big boy! I also have a best friend with no problems either ( 18000k )....Nothing I heard from my connection with the dealers either. I also believe the lighter clutch has been in use for several years now.
