Thanks for the info guys, one more question. What kind of special care is needed if I buy a SG with a denim paint scheme? I am leaning towards the Pewter Denim.
Hey, I was in the same situation as yourself, I traded my 08 low rider for and 08 street glide in blue denim. Everyone so far is correct in their assessment of the SG, rides are smooth and the added features of the bags and windshield were a def. plus for me as I was looking at adding soft bags and a windshield for the low rider. However after much careful thought, I decided I did not want to obscure the clean lines of the low rider. Additionally, take it from the senior posters here, take a test drive of the SG, thats what I did when I was considering the bags for the low rider. Brought the SG back and told my salesman, "TRADE YA!"...Oh one other thing, I was one of those who thought a radio was a useless item on a bike...let me stand corrected, it makes for a more enjoyable, relaxed and totally different riding experience.
As far as the denim paint, soap and water..much eaiser to maintain than the gloss finish I had on the low rider.
I would tell ya to go get the SG! I got mine and I couldnt be happier. I have a 08 and this baby wants to go! It pulls in every gear and really wants to get up and go. I rode by friends 06 SG with a stage one and Reinharts and it seemed a little sluggish... the only way to know what you want is to ride it and see what you think.I used to ride a Road King and it doesnt compare to the Street Glide! As for the Denim paint, I dont know, mine is Crimson Red Sunglow, and I love it!
Good luck with your choise and keep us informed as to what you do!
We've got 3 Harleys here, My Street Glide and the boys have a Fatboy and NightRod. They busted on me when we bought them about my bike being a "geezer glide" but soon after the purchase, they always wanted to trade with me during rides. My son with the Fatboy is selling it so he can purchase a bagger. +1 for the Street Glide, awesome choice!
Traded my 07 Fat Boy for my 08 SG. SG way more comfortable. When I first got my Fat Boy I didn't realize how far I would be riding. I go 300+ miles as well. You can't find a better bike that has the cool looks and comfort.
I've heard a few negatives about the denim paint. Mostly about the paint on the tank. Where your jeans rub on the edge of the tank, will turn the paint shiny there. No personal experience though.

You'll be glad you made the change.
Two words: Tank bra.
I have one on mine, but mainly to keep the keys I hang from a front belt loop from laying on the tank.
my last bike was a night train and i have a 06 SG. i can't see myself ever owning a softail again unless i hit the lottery for adump truck fullof $100 bills. when i buy another bike it's either gonna be another SG or something else in the family (dare i say road glide). my brother had a super glide sport i spent some time on and it was a great bike, but, for longer rides it wasn't great even with mid controls and forward pegs. it's really nice to have the bags and the fairing which breaks way more wind than you can even imagine, and i don't freeze my beans off every morning anymore. i rode my brother softail a few weeks ago and forgot how much more wind you get on you. i know real motorcycles don't come with radios but the one i bought has a radio and i love being able to flip on the tunes and relax on the way home from work. the denim paint i think looks cool, but i did hear it can change colors in places depending onwhat you rub up against it. to put it simply, get it you won't be disappointed. my wife loved my night train, and every time we ride she breaks my ***** when we go for a ride about riding the old man bike...but she don't bitch about being able to walk when we get home.
I sold my low rider for the SG. My only regret was ........owing the low rider in the 1st place, all the time and miles I wasted....... I never knew what I was missing. You ride it you will buy it.
