Simple fact: Touring bikes are more comfortable on longer rides by design.

If you're going to be riding ~300'ish miles, any of the touring bikes will be more comfy than any Dyna on the road.

Ask my buddy Strich. He just traded in his '07 Street Bob for an '08 Street Glide. He went through the same debate with himself for months (while also spending buttloads of $$ trying to make the Bob more comfy, which didn't work out too well).
strich here...

i was on a 07 Street Bob. I customized the sh*t out of it to make it more comfortable, not knowing when i bought it that it was one of the more rigid rides that HD puts out. Progressive 440s, mustang seat with backrest, 16" apes for proper reach, highway pegs and while it did put me in a better riding position, it didn't help out my serioius back problems. 5 years in physical therapy, 4th and 5th vertabrae almost gone, scoliosis in my lower back, but i wasn't ready to give up riding. when my back goes out, breathing is difficult and i'm laid up in bed for a week. I finally broke down and traded in the Bob for a SG. One of the hardest things i ever did. I've not gone on a ride longer than about an hour, but i can tell you, without a doubt, that the SG is the better bike (ride wise). My back seems to settle when riding, even in normal traffic (as opposed to the highway). Everything else (the bags, the radio, the windshield, etc) is extra. Plain and simple, it's a more comfortable ride. Period.

Sorry to get emotional on ya'll, but this has been a big struggle in my life for the last year. I made the right choice. Don't doubt the SG.

Just got back from a three day weekend across the border in West Virginia with my 08 SG. First time I was able to take a road trip with the new bike and the (relatively) new wife. Neither one of us is petite, butthe SG had more than enough power to haul us through the mountains. I have aSundowner saddle that wasvery comfortable.Between the great scenery and the great ride, we didn't want to come home. Bottom line, go with the SG!

I went from an 05 Heritage to an 08 SG. The comfort level is so much higher that I am planning 1,000 mile trips for this summer instead of 300 mile trips like I used to.

A bud of mine has an 04 Fatboy. He is still concentrating on young gals when he leaves the house. He keeps telling me that if he rode long trips, he would consider a SG, but he only bar hops 25 to 50 miles at a time. I just smile and tell him I like to be comfortable on 25 mile trips too!

I am currently riding a 07 Lowrider but am seriously considering trading it in on a Streetglide. What do you guys think about the trade? I purchased the Lowrider for the simple fact that my wife wanted it, instead of the Streetglide but I am now beginning to have second thoughts. When I take of on the bike I typically ride 200-300 miles per weekend. Will the Streetglide be more comfortable on those long trip in the stock form? What are some differences that I should expect to notice between the two bikes? Any other info you might have about the trade or the bike would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Jeremy
You know I did pretty much the same thing but I bought a FXD because of what the wife said. I have since learned DON"T LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE.....EVER!

No Question that the Street Glide will be more comfortable on 200-300 mi. trips than a Dyna. I rode my Street Glide solo 970 mi. in a 28 hour span afew days ago, and I'm just past 60 years old. Not trying to set a speed record, just wanted to beat a snow storm home.I LOVE my S.G. but my girlfriend has her own bike. That said, a StreetGlide is great if you ride solo, but there are other options to consider if you pack your lady long distances. The S.G. seat is fine for you but will be a little rough on her. The 12 inch shocks, again ride fine solo, I'd want the 13" for packing her. You'd probably want to add a sissybar for her comfort also. Even riding solo the S.G. windshield is only for local trips a taller one is a must. You can buy a Classic for less money than changing seats, shocks, windshield, and adding a sissybar, and the Classsic hasa tourpack too, for her stuff.

Still the Street Glide is the coolest.

I'm trading an '07 Fat Boy for an '08 Street Glide for no other reason than I'm actually riding longer trips than I thought I ever would.
I don't want to get off once I'm riding.
...and one test ride on a Touring bike was all it took.
