Anyone ever have their 08 just plain shut off under acceleration, around 2500rpm. I was leaving a store today and pulled out onto a 4 lane highway and was accelerating normally when about 100 yards up the road the machine died, totally. luckily i was able to get off the road, while scratching my head, i made sure i hadnt hit kill swith and ign was still on. I tried to restart without shutting ign off, crank but no start. Shut ign off then on as normal routine, when engine light went off, machine started. I am taking in to dealer mon for them to read code, (there is a code), but im thinking about some enormous truck behind me when this happened, luckily there wasnt one, this is DANGEROUS..
I've had Harleys (& various other brands) turn themselves off for no apparent reason quite a few times. Sometimes I've found the cause, other times it remained a mistery. Truck, car, or motorcycle it's never a good idea to pull in front of a large fast moving vehicle, but motorcycles do have less protection.
I only have 1000 on my 08, but I am grateful that never happened to me. I'd like to know if it is a recall, please let me know what the dealer finds. Best, J
I just picked this machine up after having the dealer look for the problem, unfortunately, they could find nothing. The code in the computer was not able to direct them to the happening and even though the code came as a result of the dying, it didnt give a firm destination of the problem. They checked fuel supply pressure, and sending unit, etc, all good. They also got harley on the phone and even hd could not do more to guide them. Im comfortable that the dealer put the correct amt. of effort into this but came up empty. I will have to be very careful on the road for awhile anticipating a reoccurrence, but, life goes on. One important thing should this happen to someone else, LOOK TO SEE IF THE LIGHTS ARE ON, this tells tech if the problem is elec. or fuel.

HOLEY MOLEY!
Every time I am on my bike I am of the mindset that everything (other bikers, cagers, critters, road conditions AND my bike) is out to kill me.
No, this does not take away from the pleasure of riding, it is just a defensive riding mindset that has kept me accident free for over 29 years.
Not saying that **** can't happen, but I do my best to anticipate every possible dumbass move by others on the road, poor road conditions, and failure of a component of the bike.

Ihavent had my 08 do it but I had an06 Road King do the same thing usually at a stop though no reason just die.I also couldnt restart till turning kill switch off and then back on.Very embarrassing but safer than what yours did while on the road.My service dept also I am sure did all they could to find but nothing .Luckily it was not very often just occasionally. Please keep posted as to if you find anything
I remember seeing a post about a faulty tip sensor that kills the bike when it's dumped. If I remember correctly, when the bike is dumped you need to turn the power completely off to clear the fault and then start the bike, not just hit the starter again.
I don't know even know if I read about it on this site. Sometimes a sudden acceleration or bump caused the sensor to think the bike had tipped. I don't remember the whole story but it ended with the guy getting the sensor changed under warranty and the problem went away.
