Until you are them and you consider the amount of overhead they have to pay every Month to keep their doors open with Lease payments, thelights on, and place warm, employees paid, insurance etc.Thensit on that used bike until it sells..... I am not defending them. But being a paststore front owner I can tell you its a massive amount of overhead off the top of anything you profitthatgoes straightout the door, before they make a dime.
If your not willing to loose 3K on a trade from retailbook your better off selling it yourself.....No dealer will ever pay retail on a trade that is the price theyhave tosell it for, and that is somethingyou can count on.

That's ridiculous. It's unbelievable how these dealerships try to rip every person off. So sad...
i just sold my 06 ultra w/ 7k miles on it for $20k. The bike had stage 1, and no chrome. the only reason i did this, is because i want an 09, so i just put it up on craigslist to see what would happen. it sold in 2 days, and now i'm stuck w/ out a bike for the summer - my girlfriend's pissed!
Check Kelley Blue Book and you will see that the figure is a little low that they gave but not by much.
They should have gave you around 12 grand or so depending on miles, condition, and add-ons....
Now go to Nada motorcycles and watch your price plumit more. Just went through this when buying my used bike. Kelly said good price, Nada said not a good price. My bank, of course used Nada. [&:]
something to think about is also the markup on the new bikes. MSRP is 15% higher than their cost. They make 15% off of every new bike they sell. I just traded a 2005 FLSTCI and a 2005 FLHTCI for a 2008 FLHTCUI and rode away with a check for $3500. I ended up getting $13,750 for each bike. I essentially paid them $300 per bike to not have to sell it myself by the time you add the taxes and such. It was worth it for me. You should be able to get $14k for your 2007.

Can't say I blame her, but you got great money for your bike.
There's the difference in a private sale, you control the deal and how much you're willing to take as a hit.
I have a 2007 Road Glide. It is in perfect condition. The only mods being a mustang touring seat, detatchable backrest, and highway pegs. Anyway, I thought about possibly trading it in and I heard some very depressing news. The dealer would give me $10,400. Holy crap, my bike is worth $8000 less than last year??
Was this at the small HD dealer right there in G.I.? Might be worth a trip to Omaha!
I just went through the same situation. I sold my bike outright. The dealership helped me out by refering a guy that was looking for a bike like mine. I think the banks are setting the prices on used bikes. They'll only lend you so much for a bike.
Keep your bike. Dealers sales are down, they want to make money any way they can. The 08's are just a little more high tech than your 07, more to go wrong also. Keep your bike.
