I have a 2007 Road Glide. It is in perfect condition. The only mods being a mustang touring seat, detatchable backrest, and highway pegs. Anyway, I thought about possibly trading it in and I heard some very depressing news. The dealer would give me $10,400. Holy crap, my bike is worth $8000 less than last year??
Thats just the dealership trying to keep their reputation as a stealership intact. I bought a 2006 1200 custom from a dealership here in Louisville. The salesman told me that if I decided to trade up within a year that he would give me close to MSRP for trade in on a bigger bike. Came back in less than a year and he offered me $3,500 for the bike as a trade. When I brought up the trade in offer he made before he appologized and said that the sportsters just weren't selling. I ended up selling it on my own for close to MSRP.
Shows you how much they want it. It would get in the way of selling a new one, which they have plenty of, and want to push out the door. So, their only incentive is to give you such a low trade that they make even MORE money selling yours for less than a new one and pricing it such as to attract a buyer.
Think of it this way, why would someone want yours if it was priced close to a new 08?It needs to be considerably less than an 08 to attract a buyer, and the delaer needs to make more than selling an 08, so you got to incent two parties.. the buyer and dealer...
...hence.. $10.4K
If you sell it privately you can get more than that, but what do you think you should get? You must realize that the depreciation on any new vehicle is always the most in the first year?
