Default New Guy..Need Help

I'm looking to purchase my first Harley, specifically a new 2008 Road King Classic. Went to a dealer today and tried to work a deal on a pewter color and the only other add was a backrest and luggage rack. I'll add the pipes, etc., later in Summer. Anyway, the best I can figure, I was quoted about $5K over invoice. Do any of you have any advice on a dealer that will shoot you a straight deal or tellme what I should be able to get this bike for so I can walk in with a little knowledge. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

If I couldn't get it for MSRP minus prep, and doc fees I wouldn't do it. Check around at other dealers.
I am a haggler though, and I would push for them to pay the prep fees too.

I see you are from Texas, however you didn't mention which town or area. You would probably get better responce if you at least gave that info. Lots of people here will give you help and suggestions, if they knew which direction to point you. Have you tried Red River Harley in Wichita Falls??

Thanks guys. I live in Mckinney, Texas and went to the Harley dealer in Allen. The bike I looked at had the security system, luggage rack and backrest and I was quoted $23600.I haven't been to Wichita Falls. I'll look them up and give them a call. Thanks!

I know that here in the Denver area there are a LOT of new '08's still on the dealer's floors. It is totally common to get them for straight MSRP +tax - no additional fees or charges. That's what I'd go for if I were getting one. If you can find a dealer with a bunch of '08's left, try it. You can get the MSRP from the MOCO site.

Good luck,

John

Each sales or finance mgr. has a sales book with MSRP for each model. I recently dealt with 4 dealerships and each started with that book and showed me the price. Each wanted to add security, freight, TTT. 5K over invoice seems excessive. I'd shop around.

You can try HD of North Texas in Carrollton. You may not get it for less than MSRP, but I don't think you are going to pay over it either. Ask for Danny.

Hi, I just picked up my 08 RKC yesterday. I live in the Akron, Ohio area. Most dealers around here will knock of prep if they know you are serious, thereare a few dealers around so there is competition at least that is what they said when I told them I was not going to pay MSRP AND pay them to get it ready. We started off with the MSRP plus freight and doc fees and tax which most of them do, but my dealer in May started to offer to match the Gov. tax rebate of $600! I figured they would jack the price up and then take it off, but they took it off the MSRP which was great. Although they did charge me $200 for doc fees and not like $125.
good luck and you will love the RKC.
