I have had my mufflers off at least 3 times and still no leaks, probably will replace with OEM the next time I need to remove them, then I probably will have a leak...

Wrong, I've used clamps over and over with plain clear silicone and not had any leaks. I replace them when they look crappy but they WILL seal more than once. Torque them to 55 ft lbs!
I've never used a sealant, I'vealways relied on just clamps. I've so far, knock on wood, have been lucky to not have a leak. I wouldn't hesitate on using Permatex if I did have a leak though.
