I had the old style se race mufflers they have the best sound for my ears but they were too loud for me. They were great around town but on the open road for a trip they were just too loud. I now have the new SE's 64895-07A's. Perfect noise ratio for me. I have to agree the older race Se's sound the best.
I had the old SE's on my '05 Road King, and they were twice (or so it seemed) as loud as the new SE slip-ons.
They definitely were too loud over a long trip.
After going through Rush's 1.75's and 1.5 baffles (too loud) and the original SE SE's (64895-07 too quiet), I tried the new SE 64895-07A. They are perfect for me. Quite a bit louder than the original SE 64895-07 they replaced. Sound Great to me.
But there seems to be a couple of the new SE slip-ons...you've got the two-piece, where you buy the ends ofyour desire seperately (for more $$), or you've got the one-piece slip-ons at either slant down or slant out configuration.
My question is are these two different sets of slip-ons (2-piece and 1-piece) the same internally? Only the 07A 2-piece have the "We've re-tuned these mufflers..." description. No one has commented on satisfaction with the one-piece muffs, which would be my choice and cheaper.
You're right, mine are the two piece. Can't comment on the one piece although when I bought the first set of SE 2 piece slip-ons the dealer told me that the 1 piece were louder. Don't know how that compares to the new 2 piece ones.
I have what I believe are the discontinued race SE slipons and at first, I thought they were too quiet. But that was coming from a DynaGlide Custom with V&H ShortShots. That bike was just loud and the way the pipes stop right at my head made them seem even louder when on the bike.
Now I realize the old SE slipons I have on the Road King are just perfect. Not quiet and wimpy, but certainly not obnoxiously (is that a word?) loud. Just right.
I have the Screaming Eagle - 64903-99"race only" (discontinued) slip-ons on my 06 Road King and I too am very happy with them. I have had many people ask me about my pipes. They were discontinued in 06 arebecoming very hard to find. In fact, my dealer states they are not allowed to sell them anymore even if he had them in stock.....Sound great without being annoying.

Thanks.
