I simply do not see how riding with apes can make the touring experience more comfortable. It seems that after a short amount of time, the fatique in the arms would be so great, it would defeat the purpose of a touring bagger. Am I wrong about this?
My hands used to go numb untilI put 12" apes on my RK. Now Icould ride pretty much all day, if I could just get mytail to stop hurting.I think there is a limit to how high you can go though. My hands are just below my shoulders, once you start going above your shouldersI think it becomes more of a look thing. Just my personal opinion though. I love mine.
If you don't go over your shoulders you can ride all day. Find a use bike with apes for sale and sit on it until someone makes you get up, you'll see. That's how I ended up with apes.
Most guys that stop by the shop always ask about the apes on two of the bikes I have and after they sit on one and experiance first hand its not as awkward as it may appear they always say "damn that feels good"and I have actually helped a couple guys this past week put apes on their bikes, both of which said they would have never thought they would have a bike with apes.
I hope so,I'm putting on 13" apea as we speak. Will not as we speak,I'm playing on the putter now.You know what I mean.I'm doing it for safty reasons.I'm tall,6-9 tall. When I turn a sharp turn the bars hit my knees,so I'm tired of putting up with it.This is just what I've heard and I hope there right. If you want looks go with 16" or more,If you want comfort,go with 13".
I don't know the exact size on my bike, as they were added by the original owner. But if my measurements are right, they're either 13" or 13.5" and let me tell you something... They are SUPER COMFORTABLE! I can't believe how great they are... They are FANTASTIC!
just finnished installing 16" x 1-1/4 ape`s i stand 5`11 controls are shoulder level. took it out for a short cruise lastnight feels good, will post my opinion after a good run. (jhchopper that back rest looks like a good idea. nice bike`s.
