I purchased my 08 on Jan 26, 2008, was down for 3 weeks for medical reasons and my bike has been in the shop for a little over 2weeks adding the 103 kit, the inner fairing getting painted and the front end completely blacked out. Still have managed to ride it for 9400 miles and I like everything about the bike. Have had no problems at all except maybe my wife complaining about how much I am spending on it (smile). I retired a perfectly good 2003 Ultra, just had 91,000 mile on it because I screwed up and test drove an 08: a lot of improvements between the two.
I think the color you are looking at is a good choice, it really pops when it is waxed out right. Everybody I know that has an 08 Ultra is loving it, so I have no idea what the negative noise isabout because it is all good for me.
Had my '08 Ultra w/ ABS since November and just had 5k maintanence done. Dealer found inner primary seal leak that I was unaware of and fixed it under warranty. I'm waiting for the HD brake squeal fix to come out, but otherwise a great bike...the brakes talk back at me when coming to a stop but it has declined allot with miles.
I can't see a reason to have any reservations about buying an Ultra, your friends must be listening to Honda owners.
