I installed Z pads front and rear on my 06 Ultra last week. 24,000 miles. I have about 500 miles or more on them. Problem is rear wheel will lock up rather easy. The front ones on the other hand, takes about all I got to do a panic stop. There is no softness like air in the system. There is less stopping power now on the front brakes than stock. Is there something I can do to make them better? Thanks
I just slid the caliper off and replaced the front pads. There was very little difference in stock pad thickness than with new ones. The stock pads stopped a lot better than the Z pads in front. I didn't take any bleeders loose. I changed them because the stock ones make a slight grindind noise, like sandpaper on metal. Rotors are smooth and don't seem to be glazed.
Did you follow the breakin directions that came with the pads? I know they are very specific on how to do initial break in. I have a new set of pads still in the box and read that.
I just looked at the package that the pads came in, there is no instructions. I washed the rotors with brake cleaner, went over them with a scotch bright to remove any residue. Cleaned again. When I used the brakes for the first times and still I don't do any high speed stops. I've just noticed from the start, the breaking wasn't there. The force to make the bike stop from 30 mph is more than stock brakes. Does having polished rotors make any difference? They have 24,000 miles on them. Any suggestions what I need to do next? Thanks
I just put polished rotors on my bike and lyndell pads. I can't telll wheather they stop any better or worse than stock but they do squeal quite a bit less at slow speed than before. My package didn't have any instructions for breakin either.
Would someone please post what the correct instructions on breaking in a new set of pads? I thought that not doing 100 mph panic stops was to wait till after they are seated in for awhile. What is suprising to me is the marked difference in preformance. I Have ridden this bike 24,000 miles the last 2 years. now I must relearn how to use the rear brake. It will slide the rear tire in a heart beat with less pedal effort. yet the front......
