You think that was fun wait till you try to do the rears without pulling the wheel!
I did my rear pads last night for the first time in under 1/2 an hour. Now that I know what I'm doing I figure I can cut it in 1/2 at least.
I figure the fronts are way easier, but next time I do those I'm not going to remove the wheel. If you can do the rears without removing the wheel, why remove the front?
CN
same as a car right? no need ta open the masters??i got the tools and parts just havent changed em yet
if you pry the old pads with a drift or screwdriver you dont have to remove anything. manual directions work. pry pads with resevoir cap off to release pressure remove screw and pads drop out. PRESTO!!
15 min. go here. They are very easy. I do not 100% agree with this that just slide the pads in from the top. I R&R my calipers every 2,500 miles & clean them out throughly. I do not have my rotors getting hot while riding or any kind of issues at all. My wheels both spin fairly free but not like the calipers are not on the forks. Very slight drag, very slight only! What I have outlined does not cost one cent but it is a necessary part of motorcycling.
If you did pull your calipers off, pull the pads, and look at what is inside of them you may change your thinking. It only takes a few min. The hardest is pulling the bike up on the table. I pull a lot of PM and also test many products. As far as riding, I live in Ft. Lauderdale. We almost ride every day (bad all day rain or hurricanes we do not). My motorcycle(s) are my primary mode of transportation out of choice. Here in S.Fla. everything is spread out. I think I do ride a little over 3K miles/year. The only time I use a car/truck is because I have to haul something. You guys can do what you like but it is my ***. I do it because I observe. Anyone who does not do a service @ 2.5K is asking for a surprise. Motorcycles is what I do for a living, I find the time.
Its a heck of lot easier if you put the bike on a lift and take the extra 5 minutes to pull the front wheel off. This way you don't have the clearance problem with the fender! Just My .02 worth....and I've done this twice in the last few weeks on two different bikes!
uhh.... on my eg, i gotta pull the calipers first before thewheel will come off.
