Not a goldwing, but did ride a '99 Valkyrie for the past 8 years...
82k trouble free miles.

I have been secretely admiring the R/G for a couple years now..
and decided to make the change this spring.

84 Aspencade, same as your pic. Ran and rode great, but a little to civilized for our tastes. RKClassic fits us perfect.

Six years ago I set out to buy a Goldwing. My friend rode Goldwings for 30 years.I saw the price and said I can get a Harley for that price. I recently sold my 02 and bought a 08. Oh yeah... Myfriend now rides a Roadking.

First bike I ever owned was a 1993 Gold Wing. I rode it for 13 years and 89,000+ miles. Never had a problem. Saw an add for the Street Glide in 06 and knew I had to have one. The GW sat in the corner of the garage the first year and only got 150 miles put on it. I paid $10,000 for it and a guy offered me $8,500 for it so I sold it to him.
It was a great bike, I enjoyed every mile I put on it. But one look at the SG and it was all over. 16,000+ miles on the SG and I still have that big grin every time I twist the throttle. Never had that with the Wing.

Ride Safe,

Mike

If you loved it why did you sell it? What did you love about it? How do you find your HD?
The 1500 was a sweet li'l bike - but it didn't like corners at high speeds. Ah scraped the paint off the undercarriage from pushin' 'er in the corners. The steel frame had a tad too much flex in it - given the size of the bike, it's understandable - but the 1800 wuz to have addressed those issues, which it did - but like anything else, the compromises made in the bike design led to other issues.

Mah first bike wuz an ol' Indian swapped fer haulin' hay when ah wuz 12. Later, ah built a chopper while in the Navy - given the level of mah lack of knowledge 'bout frames an' sech, it's a miracle ah didn't kill mahself - but ah survived to sell it at a nice profit.<yeah, it started life as a HD>

Once ya've had ANY kinda v-twin, it's almost impossible ta git it outta yer heart, IMO. While thar may be other bikes, the one that always spoke ta me was HD. While I enjoy tinkerin', ah do NOT enjoy fixin' stuff 'cuz of crappy design and/or workmanship, an' mah chopper left a bad taste in mah mouth fer some of HD's design work. But it's kinda lahk a drug addict ah reckon - ya may not WANT ta do it, but ya GOT ta do it. Ah kept an eye on the MoCo, watched a buddy buy an '01 UC an' have 6 reliable years outta it, an' pulled the trigger on mah own late in '06. 15k miles later, all ah kin do is kick mahself fer waitin' so long.

I traded an '07 GL1800 in on my Road Glide. The Goldwing is an awesome bike, and by all objective standards it is probably a better bike. It's faster, it's smoother, it has more toys. However, I find the riding experience of the Harley to be much more satisfying. After all, you don't ride the spec sheet.

Still got a Gold Wing but look at the sig and you'll see which bikes get ridden. I like the Gold Wing pretty well, it's most of the GW owners I can't stand! So, I've never ridden with Wingnuts. I can ride any bike with my Harley buds and always have a great time.
