Without knowing what the correction factor was (SAE/STD) or run conditions, it's tough to draw any conclusions from the posted sheet.

First off.... thanks for the message reply and the postings of your results. I completely agree with your "what matters to me" statement......while your numbers are a bit high, what matters is your perception of how much better the bike runs and that its overall manners are better and no doubt, cooler running. Regardless how you got to where you are, you are clearly "there" and are happy with that.....good for you brother......happy trails.....

Yes as long as you are happy with the performance increase that is all that matters. Didn't mean to come off as a smart *** or anything and I should have said congrats on those numbers. You have pre 2014 stage two numbers with a stage one and that's a Jackpot right there!

Greetings, looking to buy a new 2014 FLHTK Limited. Will be adding Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Pro Pipe, S/E stage one air cleaner kit, S/E race tuner.

Question: Do I need a dyno run for proper tuning, and how much should this dyno run (tuning) cost?

Thanks!

You're making mods to a brand new bike?! If you want it to run at it's very best then IMHO you do indeed need to have it tuned properly on a dyno.

If this is all being done to a near 0 miles new bike, then by all means, do the mods and then have the bike broken in on the dyno and then tuned. As far as cost goes, there are many factors that come into play here such as where you are and who you have available to do the work and how much time on the dyno thats going to be required to do all the work. If you treat this engine as a new build (which it is really) then there are many who know full well what to do. Where are you geographically?

Thanks for the reply. This will be a new 2014 FLHTK. I reside in the Denver area. I have been advised that I should break the bike in on the road before having the performance upgrades installed given the stress the dyno loads on a motor. I have the Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Pro Pipe, S/E Race Tuner Module, and S/E Air Cleaner Kit priced out on the internet. Trying to get an idea of what the instal of the above accessories would run, and what the dyno tune should cost. I will be trying to get the bike in the next month or so at MSRP, as close to home as possible. Any feedback is absolutely appreciated!

Thanks!

The very first hours of any engines life are by far, the most important. That which is done in the beginning impacts the engine through out it's life. To say that an engine should be "broken in on the road" leaves much room for interpretation. To say that there are numerous schools of thought as to how a motor should be broken in is an understatement. I am not a professional engine builder so I will not offer my thoughts on this subject. What I will do is offer you contact information to those that I have come to understand to be professionals in this field. Call them, talk to them and ultimately, do it right the first time because that only comes once.
T Man Performance..T.R Reiser (336) 993-7068
Hillside Motorcycle & Machine.. Scott Palmer (315) 495-6650
Vee Twin Racing..Kirk Apathy (386) 873-4427
Dragos Bike Works..Frank Drago (815) 765-1790
Call one or call them all....ask questions and keep an open mind. Please do not trust your local HD dealer. I'm not saying they don't know what they are doing as I don't even know who they are. HD dealers are in the business of selling new motorcycles and factory authorized (EPA approved) performance upgrades. Trust your performance motor needs to those that do nothing else...think about it. Also there is a shop near you called KAZ Motorsports in Colorado Springs that has a very good rep as a performance tuner. The guy to talk to is Kenny..(719) 635-2167. I will say this much as it is from personel experience....breaking in a motor on an engine dyno by a competent professional is every bit as good if not better than on the road. This is not a dyno tuning session here, this is heat cycles and the correct application of excelleration and decelleration in order to seat piston rings properly and all in a contolled environment. If the best is what you want, then consult those that only give the best. I wish you the best in this and I hope I have been of help.
