Anybody having anytrouble getting used to the new throttle? It is touchey! On the highway, and in the parking lot. Is there any adjustment on them? We have 2 of them in our group and they are all over the place on the highway. One of them is my wifes 08 SG. She says she hates the new throttle. Says you can't just lay your hand on it on the highway, that you have to hang on to it and if you let up just a hair your speed falls off. Says it is very fatiquing on the hand. Just asking.
I find it just takes abit of time to get used to...I love the Fly By Wire! The addition of a throttle boss would help tremendously by allowing here to rest her fingers. I'm adding one with my new Kuryakyn ISO grips...they absorb alot of the vibration. But otherwise I use the cruise control on the highway all the time. Also...check her handlebar and arm positioning...might be leaning to far into the bars...this alone would cause her hands to get fatigued. Alot of Forum riders have changed their SG bars...and I'm thinking the same. Check the forums on these issues...you'll be amazed at what ya find! Mike
I also love the fly by wire. I actualy think that it smooth things out alot. That could be becouse my last bike had a throttle like a light switch! I also agree with adding the trottle rocker, I had mine on from the time I left the dealer, makes the hand fatiuge much less.
I have hardly noticed any difference except that it holds it place better than a cable throttle and has no play. I dont even use my cruise because it stays in place so well. as far as being touchy I dont agree with that. I have heard others say it is less responsive than cable throttles. It performs the same function petty well as far as I can see.
Went from a 02 FXST w/carb. to a 08 RG At first I hated the tbw after 5K on it now, I still don't love it but I can live with it. To me it seems like I don't get any feedback like I did with the 02 bike.
I agree with Cotton Hill, there doesn't seem to be the feedback that I was used to with a cable/carb bike. When I get off the throttle by twisting it back to "zero" it feels odd to go past "off" with the throttle. But the big issue for me is that it's so responsive and when traveling slowly over a rough road, cobblestones or some of NYC's crap roadways under construction, the bouncing affects my hand on the throttle and the bike is getting goosed. Scary at first but I guess I need to get used to it and adapt my riding a bit. I've only got 120 - some miles on her so far.
But the FBW is very smooth and takes a soft touch.
