I first went to the 12" but it was too high. Then went to the 9.5" from HD, it is just right. I am 5'9". I can see easily over it with the wind going over my head.
Dang....can't you people count??? The guy specifically asked about a 6" shield. Only one person seemed to get that (except for the first reply, too funny) Sorry to rant, but I hate to open threads with replies that don't even really consder the question...people just want to post their opinions of what they thing the person should get vs. what they asked about.
I bought an inexpensive 6" & 8" from Ebay. Had to get the 6" because the 2 pocket deal covered the entire 4" screen. Wanted to have just a bit to duck behind for riding in hail [8D]
The extra 2" seemed to make a big difference for me. 5'8", 30" inseam, Low HD seat. With the 4", the wind went right into the top of my eyebrows. Now it seems to hit the top of my forehead or just above.
Haven't even tried the 8" inch yet...thought I'd try it when I go on a long ride (over 350 miles).
I personally like the 6.5 dark smoke from the MoCo. on trips of some distance....The 4 inch for short trips and cool looks around my area! Yes, the 2.5 inches make a difference....
Are you looking for a little less wind or alot less wind ?
At 40 mph & below, both work about the same. The 6 will make at difference at highway speeds
If youre 5'8 the 6" may work fine ... if youre 6'4 you may not see any difference
Generally, the taller the shield, the better the airflow control.
Most of my customers say the 6 is better than the 4 for all around riding when you want some airflow.
On my 08 SG I went from the 4" to the HD 6.5" and yes it made a difference. My only complaint was at highway speed the wind would get under my helmet and start lifting it. I just installed a Cee Bailey's 11" Dark Gray Tint (with the curves it equals 8.25" tall). Haven't had to opportunity to go over 60 mph yetbut so far so good. Click on my photo gallery for more pics.
