Default EZ brake pedal installation

I was hoping someone could offer some advice on how to remove the clevis pin from my brake pedal. I want to install a forward-control brake pedal... have removed the floorboard, the pedal pivot bolt and the cotter pin, but I can't for the life of me get that clevis pin out. I've tried prying it, sprayed it with some WD-40, tapping on it with a screwdriver and hammer... it won't budge.

Here's a photo of what it looks like when removed (found it on another site).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you bought it brand new there was instructions on the inside of the pakage. If not to my best memory you need apiece of 1/4 inch wood and a c-clamp and a 3/8 deep socket. place the deep socket over the top of the clevis pin (button or head side) then place thewood piece on the other side of the pin. tighten the C-Clamp till it press the pin out. I would not use a hammer you might mushroom the pin and then you will be in a fix. Be sure to install the washer before you install the cotter pin or you will get toremove the cotter pin again. Best of luck and double check my install instructions.

I installed mine about a year ago and don't remember having a problem with it. I think I used a large flat screw drivver to press it through from behind. Not sure. If that doesn't work you might try using a set of pliers with on part on the cotter pin side of the pin and the other just beside the head and see if you can press it out that way.

Another guy on the forum had the same problem on his bike. Seems the pin was rusted in. I suggested he soak it well with WD and then grab the head of the pin with some channel locks or vise grips and twist it to break the rust loose. He posted later that it worked for him.

I installed the same pedal on my bike and the pin came right out. I routinely oil mine after I wash it so the pin won't rust, My bike is also much newer at 07.

Hope this works for you.

Thanks so much for the tips, guys! I'll give it all a shot tomorrow and let you know if it worked or not. I don't have the bike on a lift, so it's a royal pain maneuvering around in there.

I bought the pedal from Ebay, so no instructions, although this site provides a good overview: http://www.rollingthundercycles.com/...EZ%20Brake.htm

Update to come.... and sifularson, good idea to give the pin a spot of oil everytime. I'll be sure to do that if/when I get the mother*** thing out! lol

Regards,
KM

Well, couldn't resist... had to get out to the garage and try these things out. Result: 1 broken C-clamp. lol
Gave it a good shot of WD-40 again and tried twisting it, pulling it and cussing at it. She won't budge. I'm off to the hardware store tomorrow to look at the different models of C-clamps. Maybe I'll find one that fits better.

I can't believe what a job this has become!

Any other ideas?

I have the same brake arm as shown on that site, it is abit of PITA to install but it is WELL worth the trouble -that arm is awesome when you get it installed & working.

Had a similar problem when I swapped out the pedal on my 99 FLHT. Just couldn't get enough leverage behind the pin to apply the necessary pressure to push itout. After struggling with it for about 30 minutes, I removed the whole assembly from the bike (had to buy a big wrench - maybe 1 1/8" - for the nut that held on the master cylinder). Once I had it on the bench I was easily able to knock out the pin with a drift. Re-installed everything and didn't even have to bleed the brakes. Once I decided to go down this path the whole job took about 10 minutes.

Don't mean to get you down or anything but wait until you put it back in and try to install the cotter pin. That's where I had my trouble.I hope you have small hands.Good luck!

Dang it... no, my hands aren't the smallest. lol... I might have to go with GuessWho's method. I just picked up a few more C-clamps. Will give it another go when I get home later on. Unreal.

Cheers,
