Default Cooling fan installation?

Is the fan thermostat controlled or controlled with an on/off switch. If it utilizes a switch did you use the acc swich on the fairing? How involved is the installation?

Default RE: Cooling fan installation?

I bought a used Road King Police bike that had the cooling fan. The fan is controlled by a thermostat. It kicks at some temperature that is monitored somewhere. The horn gets relocated on the front tab of the gas tank. It works pretty good especially on the Interstate parking lots. Leg gets warm for sure when the fan kicks on. When I got the bike, I noticed the one of the rubber bushings didn't match up with the others, it was more of a grommet instead of a bushing. You probably could hook it up to bypass the thermostat to provide cooling whenever you want. Sorry I couldn't really fully answer your question.

I have one on my RG. Im assuming you have RK (accessories switch) Bob is 100% correct, thermostat controlled. The "stat" is located on the air cleaner backing plate closest side to the motor. Now mine in an '06 model, and I understand that there had been a "problem" some years back, that the fankit hardware would shake loose. Good news is that hardware has been upgraded and the problem gone. One of the brackets is connected down to a bolt closest to the stator plug.
Relocating the horn was the most involved part of a RG installation due to removal of the fairing. Hope this helps. TOM

Put one on my Ultra Classic - before I really read more on this forum that the TC88's are setup really lean and thus a cause for some of the heat. I'm doing the Stage 1 and pipes and SERT and hope this helps with the heat as well.

But an average wrench will probably need two hours to put in the fan kit.

ACC is not used, theromstat and power to the B+ lead, kit comes with a relay and all wiring.

If you do it, have fun.
