most pumps use the same hose with 3 selections so your 1st gallon is probably what the last person used anyway.
Not if you wait until you see someone gassing up with high test, and then you get the pump next. On my 03' Screamin' Eagle Deuce the engine that came from the factory had 203 SE cams, flattop's, and a bit higher comp ratio than the 88's.....and IIRC the owners manual said to use 91.....and thats the only bike I use the high test on so I dont have to pull that wait for the guy in front to use the 91 trick. On my 08' FLHX I go with 89 or 88 octane, and so far so good.
I haven't done a search yet but then this thread popped up so... What about octane boosters? Do they work/help? Say I'm forced to put a lesser grade in can I make up the difference with a booster?

From everything I have heard it is difficult to put enough booster in to actually make much of a difference. That being said, after I had to get some fuel that was really low octane/bad gas (sounded like a can full of rocks for the next 75 miles) in the middle of nowhere Texas (or run out), I carry an unopened bottle of booster with me on trips and dump the entire bottle in the tank if needed. Seems to help enough to get down the road to the next station with better gas.
For the extra 1.50/2.00 more a tank Im using the good stuff, have been out needing gas and higher octane wasnt available seem to make no diff, but next tank I put in the good stuff in just my opion

Sovelhead, I have an '02 RK and we have only 10% ethanol here, I have always used 91 octane or higher and have never had any issues. Buddy of mine had an '05 Ultra and put 89 in it once by accident, his bike ran like crap for a couple tanks of hi-test...I guess you could say you are lucky

RE: Is 91octane really needed
My .02 --- I run the highest octane I can find. Been riding bikes (dirtbikes, etc) since I was 3, and the one thing I have always done is use the highest octane available. Now, if we are talking about my car or truck, I go for the cheapest!
You are right, Iagree. But there are lots of ignorant as**oles on this forum who would be better off just reading and not answering, who really needs their crap smart *** responses.
