Hi....thinkin about gettin the HD chrome front end kit(46335-04a)...WOndering how many here has made the swap, and how difficult it was..im @ 7500 miles now,,,would it make more sense to wait till the 10K mile service??
if you are a good/decent wrench and have the service manual you can swap the front forks in about 4 hours. If you want to wait just to have your service records on changing the fork oil in sync then do so, but that "should" not void your warranty for having the oil changed early.
You will like the new chrome front forks.
I made the swap on my softail and it was relatively easy, but I have air tools. Look in your maint manual and that should give you an idea as to how difficult the job would be for you. Good luck.
You need to access the upper fork clamps and top cap which requires disassembly of your inner fairing. The fork swap is easy but the fairing not so much.
Fuzz35, I'm having mine done on Wednesday, along with the 1000mi check. I guess I could save money and do it myself, by why? They are already going to have my bike, I might as well let them do it.
I will post pictures when I get them....
Good luck in your choice... I just think it is easier to have the pro's do it.
There's a good post in the do it yourself section if your thinking of doing your own. It is for a touring model so would apply more to your bike than my Heritage. But it was not that difficult to do. 4 to 5 hours is a good estimate of the time you'll take. I got my parts off ebay, original HD legs, upper fork covers and cow bells all for about $250. Last bike I had a shop do it for me, this time I decided I wanted to do it myself. If you're mechanically inclined and can do oil changes and general service stuff you should have no problem doing it yourself. A bike lift to get the front end off the ground is almost a necessity and the service manual. Go for it.

RE: Front End Kits
This is one of the best mods you can do on a bike. It REALLY dresses up your ride as the front end is highly visible and the chrome makes getting the bugs off a lot easier. I put a chrome front end on my '07 Fat Boy (now sold) and plan to do the same with my '08 Electra Glide in the near future.
