Default Factory Security Alarm install?

I ordered the factory security alarm today, and I was wondering if anyone on here has done the install for it them-self?? The dealer wanted $275.00 for it, and I bought it for $175.00 and I would like to do the install my self.

Thanks

Bob

30 minutes to install

3 hours to program[:-]

Pop the seat, disconnect the ground lead from battery, remove old TSM and replace with new TSSM. (remove right side panel if installing optional Smart Siren)

Reconnect battery.

Program unit.

Attempt to start cycle. Get confused and angry when bike runs for 3 seconds and dies over and over and over again.

Remove seat and side panel making sure you didn't f anything up.

Damn bike still won't start. Getting really mad now. Looking for a ball peen hammer to use on alarm or bike.

Go online to HDForums and find the link that shows you how to get your ECM to learn the password of the new TSSM. (While standing at ignition switch watching the lights cussing is optional. Beware of small children and old ladies.)

Startup bike and notice that the check engine light comes back on after initial start.

Go back to HDForums and find the link that shows you how to clear the error codes from the ECM using the odometer.

Start bike up again and verfy normal operation.

What? And deprive you of a valuable learning experience?

Take a look at the posts in the DIY section for Engine Diagnostics , Alarm, and Fuel Injection Issues

Some very valuable time saving info there. Armed with the correct info it may only take an hour to program. Do not forget to set a personal code that is different from the example in your book. The personal code will allow you to disarm the system using your turnsignal switches if your keyfob is lost or damaged.

https://www.hdforums.com/m_120188/tm.htm (it takes the full 30 minutes, do not be fooled when the alarm light winks out, it takes the full 10 minutes for each step, don't blink or miss your chance. If you do you must start over.)

https://www.hdforums.com/m_43975/tm.htm (still applies to 06 models)

Or spring for the HD Electrical Diagnostics Service Manual

Or haul it into the dealer and have it done with the Digi Tech.

Thank you for the help and the links. I have been in that section, but I had just not come across that info.

My H.D. dealer installed the entire system for $85.00, I think you need to shop for a new dealer
