Default speedo and radio issues 2000 Ultra

Riding yesterday and noticed the radio volume would drop and then come back up at normal cruise speed. Then seen that every time this happened speedo would not work either. Needle drop to zero then bounce back up when volume came back up. Only did it for short periods of time and very sporadic. Hit all kinds of bumps and cant make it happen . Any one else experienced this problem. Thanks in advance, Mark

Check the speedometer sensor. Pull it out and check it for a pile of metal shavings. It is just a giant magnet after all. Clean it off and see if that helps. If not the sensor is going bad and needs to be repaced. Same thing happened to mine. The real PITA was that it wouldn't idle at all. Apparently the ECM needs a signal from the sensor to let it know when/if the bike is moving. When the sensor goes the bike won't idle. Easy job to clean or replace if needed.

+1 on the speedo sensor.
A shot of wd-40 will assist in the cleaning.

Been there, done that on my 01 Ultra. Cleaned sensor, was OK for awhile, then it went completely. Easy to replace, though. The loss of speaker volume is due to speed compensated volume. Needs signal from speedo sensor.

Default RE: speedo and radio issues 2000 Ultra (UPDATE)

Update on this issue. Pulled the sensor and cleaned it. Had some shavings, not alot. Rode 200 miles Sun and 225 today and noticed that when taking off from garage and bike cool, everything is fine. Ride 100 miles and stop, ( ignition off) when taking off it does it a few times then straightens out and is fine until next stop. No matter if it is 25 miles or another 100 miles. Any luck with the flow chart in the manual? Have not tried this yet. Any opinions greatly appreciated before I buy a new sensor and may have to eat it.
