My brother's 2000 Ultra has a problem with his speedometer and radio volume. While riding after the bike heats up, the speedo drops to 0 and the radio volume drops. I suspect the speed sensor, it would cause both symptoms I believe due to the AVC signal to the radio and the loss of pulses for the speedo.
I have a spare speed sensor from my 2004 Ultra that I changed for a different issue. The sensor was not the problem, so I have a good sensor.
Will the sensor from a 2004 Ultra work on a 2000 Ultra?
Sorry that I can't answer your question, don't have a part book at hand but...
Had the same issue with another bike. Speedo dropped out and the radio stopped playing. This was an erratic issue and only happened when the bike would warm up while riding.
The bike owner changed plug wires which changed his ION knock system resistance. This affected the speedo and radio. When he went back to stock HD wires the issue went away. I know it sounds weird but I saw it with my own eyes.
Are you running non stock HD plug wires? If so, pardon my interruption.
I am having the exact same problem, speedo goes to 0 and volume of radio drops. Have cleaned speedo sensor a couple of times, no help. Had it in at the dealers and asked them to look at it, within a mile of shop it started doing the same thing again. Plug wires are stock, but may put new ones on as probably need them anyway. 04ULTRA did your brother get the problem fixed on his bike and if so what did he do to fix?
