Cutting your FM/AM radio antenna will cause the sensitivity to decrease. Cutting the CB antenna may destroy the transmitter due to an SWR mismatch - there are alternatives to simply cutting the antennas - there are "rubber ducky" antennas which will give satisfactory performance. Check HERE .

Hello-
I cut my antenna by 12 inches to get it below eye level. It has not affected the radio reception.

I cut my AM/FM antenna to go under my garage door and it didn't affect the reception. Maybe it would in the real fringe areas, but I didn't see it. That antenna is a compromise anyway, itis electrically impossible to be correct for the entire AM and/or FM band anyway. The slight mismatch you will introduce by trimming it a few inches won't be noticable.

The CB antenna is totally different, it must be correct to perform and to protect the transmitter.

I later added the J&M antennas to both sides and am happy with them.

My brother rides a 06 ultra. He shortened both the radio and the CB antennas by 16". I ride along with him on some long rides and he sends and receives well on his CB. His radio doesn't seem to be affected either.

Regardless of what some might say, you WILL affect reception - to what degree depends on the area yer in. Folks that don't git into the boonies will never notice - but we git into areas whar you kin set the radio ta scan an' git NO reception fer hours, so take it with a grain of salt.

An' if ya trim the CB antenna improperly (ie, don't set the SWR's properly), you stand a REAL risk of burnin' out the finals. Period.

Another vote for the J&M shorty antennas. If you cut your attenna you will reduce radio reception capability. If you cut the CB antenna you will get a high swr when you transmit and burn out the finals of your radio.
