In the future, you should inquire about the dealer's pricing policies for parts before you authorize repair work if you are going to be upset paying retail list prices for emergency repairs while on the road--or stay closer to home so you can get a tow home and order from Zanotti's.
If that had been me, I think my post would be giving kudos to that dealer for getting me in right away, having all the parts in stock and then getting me back on the road. The cost would be a non-issue with me unless I knew for sure that the prices were jacked up way over list price. No sympathy here...
Break down near Zanotti's, you'll find that they probably don't give you a "Internet Price" on over the counter, or in the service department parts.... They gotta keep the lights on somehow! It's not a "stealership" when you are provided a service in a timely manner with good customer service. Service costs money! You had the option to pay at the dealer for the repairs and get back on the road, or order the parts and fix it yourself...
Damn they got you back on road and you are complaining? They have to make a profit just like everyone else. You should be praising them not bitchin about it.
Some of these responses are incomprehensible. Do you think that a dealer doesn’t get their parts cheaper than what a seller is selling them for on the internet? The prices I quoted was for PARTS. The labour charges that were charged equated to over $100/hr ($380 for 3.5 hours). The philosophy of HD dealers NOT allowing “on the road” riders to be stranded is sound and compassionate. Thankfully, this franchise believes in that policy; many don’t. I know the costs of doing business, I also know what excessive profits are. Check your fuel prices!
t, you were treated fairly, as anybody local or travelling would have been. To charge list price for parts by a service dept. is normal practice by any dealership. I imagine if Zanotti's has a service dept., they charge list for the parts in their service as well. i agree with others that you should thank them for getting you on the road to enjoy your trip.

I this experience is going to upset you this much then the whole Harley experience is something you're not going to enjoy so just sell your bike and try another hobby.
T, I'm trying to understand your frusteration honest I"am but I really dont see it. I bought my bike and tried to bring in for service at the same place and was told to bring it back in a month that they had no time for me. This dealership that you got into took care of you with no notice and charged you their regular price for parts, thats not too bad! I know you dont feel this way, but honestly what were your options? You were stranded and broke down. I would have to bet since I live close to Chicago HD and shop there often, adn if you lived close to Zanotti's HD you would find that they more often than not have no parts in stock they they seem to have to order everything, so that is why the cost is a little lower. No overhead. As far as this dealership that you got helped at, it is supprising to me that they had all of your parts in stock and had a guy there to instal them and get you back on the road no matter what the cost was. I think I would of left the shop with my fixed bike and went to the closest liquor store and bought a few cases of beer and dropped them back off, then proceded to the clothing section and bought a shirt or two and bragged about how this dealership saved my A**. Just my thought, but I could be wrong, I guess....
