Default Pricing Query.....

So we’ll try this again. Posted this message yesterday and it disappeared from the forum.
Censorship or Freedom of Speech; you decide.
Left on a trip for Mount St. Helen’s.
Shortly after leaving, bike developed started problems.
Took bike to Northwest HD in Lacy, Washington St.
Service department did their job and got me back on the road.
Parts were put into the bike: starter, outer clutch and pinion gear, gaskets and syn oil.
If I had purchased those parts from Zanotti’s; I would have paid $559.12.
Dealership charged me $747.44. A difference $188.32 on the prices I would have paid.
Is there any wonder why forum members refer to these guys as Stealerships?
Why is it that “being broken down on the road” submits a person to this kind of financial abuse?
If this post is removed from this forum; PLEASE explain why.
Cheers
G

The vast majority of the replies basically said to quit bitchin as the dealer did not rip you off. Even given the prices that you stated....that would leave 188 dollars for the labor. Dealerships are there to make a profit not break even. If you feel the way you do, your best bet is to stop at a hotel, go online, order the parts, wait for them, then fix it yourself.

The fact that they got you in and fixed it without having to wait in line and come back the next day to a couple of days later shows that they tried to do right by you.

The above statement is a synopsis of the replies that you received.

Brick and motor stores HAVE to charge more then mail order. It is simple commerce. Plus does that price include labor? That's not free.

Sorry, but I worked in a garage for a long time, labor costs, and getting your bike in and out the same day is worth a premium as well.

Personally I think you did good.

lets see. Zanotti's sells stuff at discount on the internet. the dealer sells at list, the same as any auto dealer would. the dealer got you back on the road so your trip wasn't a total waste. If you were trying to just save $, why didn't you just order from Zanotti's, hope they had it in stock, and wait for it to arrive.

Certainly a lot of $, but I would guess the parts are at list price. seems like you were treated fairly. did you expect to get some kind of discount since you were traveling and weren't one of their normal customers?

Unless the dealer charged over list price, seems to me you got a good of deal as possible, since your trip wasn't totally ruined, the bike is fixed, and the dealer now is responsible to warranty the parts and labor if the parts go bad under warranty.

Well, all I can say is the dealer did you good by getting you right in and getting you back on the road. The dealer didn't give you the 20% discount that you would have gotten if you were at home sitting in the garage with a broken bike waiting for the parts to be shipped to you. Which could have easily been over a week. I guess I really don't see where the gripe is, a lot of dealers charge list price. You have the choice to buy or not. JMO.

Geeez Dude, you should be posting, praising this dealer. If you wanted to save $188, you should have gotten a motel room, ordered from Zanotti's, waited for your parts, then spend a few days in the parking lot doing the work. Duh! You were back on the road for $188 more than a mail order, labor included ???? Did you tip the Service Manager $100 to buy his guys some beers for taking care of you. It's guys like you that just don't understand the simple things in life, everything has to have a bad side for you to bitch about.

Your ability to post here is a privilege, not a right.

If you want the RIGHT to post, go start your own forums.

I read your post yesterday, but most had already summed it up. You got a fair deal for getting the parts THEN AND THERE, and getting back on the road. If you wanted the discount price from one of the online retailers you could have ordered them, had them shipped to the dealer where your bike was, then held up in a motel somewhere. Compare the cost of that to what you paid, then STFU.

You gotta pay to play. If you don't wanna pay, you could always take up knitting.

Uh, dude - rather than toss out allegations, why not RESEARCH first? Mebbe that's the whole problem with yer repair. Ah simply went to yer profile, an' guess what?

https://www.hdforums.com/m_3464981/m...tm.htm#3464981

Not too many "angry" folks....except those that are amazed that you complain about payin' retail prices for an on the road repair.

Next time, order 'em from Zanotti's, wait for 'em ta git there - an' hope ya have the tools ya need to do the job! Oh, wait - ah guess in YER world, the local dealer should loan ya them tools, eh?
