Default Broken Tour Pack Latch

Walked out this morning to find my rear latch was broken. I&nbsp\\;went by&nbsp\\;the dealer to see if it was covered&nbsp\\;under warranty and was told it was but I would have to bring it in and their next open appointment was for June 30th. I told them to stick it and bought it and put it on myself. I can't believe they wouldn't work with me on a stupid latch. Jerks!

Ah'm confused....should they have put off the other folks already on their schedule to do your repair immediately?

Actually all I wanted was for them to give me the latch and just submit the warranty claim to HD. They get the warranty reimbursement and I do the work. A tech would have never needed to see the bike. The service manager should have been able to do this and they had the latch in stock.

The warranteed part that is replaced under warranty must be returned by the dealer to get reimbursement.&nbsp\\; Not sure how your dealer could do that if they don't do the repair.&nbsp\\; I suppose they could trust you to bring the replaced part back in, but unlikely to do so unless they know you well.

Ah would've tried to work a "deal" with the service department ta leave payment for the part, an' git reimbursed when ah returned the defective part.&nbsp\\;If they weren't willin' ta do that, THEN ah'd blast 'em.

Don't they have to take the time to look at the part to make sure you did not use a hammer to close it? Just because you say you did not does not make it so. Part of warranty replacement is inspection and that takes time away from others with appointments.

Generally parts are covered under warranty, but labor is not......They should've brought you right in and warranteed your latch and charged you at least a half hour labor of $40 or so to put it on&nbsp\\; Guess they lost money on that one.

Have to schedule a 5 minute repair.&nbsp\\; Good grief. I am suprised they were even going to cover it under warranty. Now that you did it your self, i am sure you have voided your warranty some how.
