LEOS in action in NY
Can anyone explain to me what gives the State the right to make anyone simply travelling down a public road subject to a pullover with no cause, check your identification, ask you questions about where your going (None of their business) It was a free Country last I checked. \\;\\\\\\; Then search your vehicle for any irregularities they do not like so they can ticket you. \\;\\\\\\; These Stops are clearly \\;\\\\\\;only \\;\\\\\\;motivated to issue citations

I hope someone takes these guys on This is nothing short of \\;\\\\\\;communist type behavior in America!

Thursday June 12 crossing from Buffalo to Fort Erie I saw 20+ bikes pulled over by the State Trooper blocking the middle lane before the bridge.
The Trooper signalled me and a friend to join the rest of the bikes at the side of the road.
The coversation went like this:
Leo: You going to that bike rally in Port Dover (friday the 13th)
Me: No, I'm going home
Leo: Oh, your Canadian ?
Me: Yep, what's up ?
Leo: We have THE NY State Motorcylce Inspector with us today, he will be checking your bike.
Me: OK
(Wait 10 minutes, the NY State Motorcylce Inspector asks for my driver's licence, copies the information on a ticket)
Me: What are you looking for ?
Inspector: Straight Pipes and legal helmets, I see your helmet is fine.
Me: So is the exhaust, the bike is a 2008 FLHTCUSE3, Stock.
Inspector: Let me check - He gets down on his hands and knees a looks up the exhaust pipes.
Me: As a Motorcycle Inspector, can't you see these are stock exhaust from 100 feet away ?
Inpector: Don't be a smart ***.
Me: OK
Inspector: You're free to go, have a nice day.
None of the 20+ bikes got a ticket in our group, more bikes were pulled over as we left to cross the bridge.
I think they were just looking for a chance to write tickets and collect some ca$h.
The problem they are not checking for irregularities they don't like, they are enforcing the law. All of these citations are issues that we all know. Like it or not. Half the crap we as group brought upon ourself. If we didn't act like dicks we wouldn't be treated like dicks. Sorry if this sounds harsh no disrespect to anyone.
Got nothing to hide, got nothing to worry about!!!
I would suggest taking direct action, write you local representatives and all the way up to the senators and representatives in your home state. Your vote has power as long as you use it. Let these people who are in office know how you feel about issues and explain to them that you will be voting for the ones that will look out for your rights.
I don't have a problem with tickets being issued for illegal behavior or equipment but this is the lazy way of doing it. \\;\\\\\\; It should be done on a case by case basis when there is cause to investigate, why should everyone be inconvenienced due to the actions of a few. \\;\\\\\\; This is not the equivalent of an airport checkpoint and should not be treated as such. \\;\\\\\\; Keep in mind as well that what is illegal in one state is not in another and while I can understand the enforcement of requiring certain clothing to be worth (ie Helmet) I don't see how they could issue a citation for an equipment violation for an out of state vehicle. \\;\\\\\\; My tinted windows are legal in GA but not many northern states. \\;\\\\\\; They won't issue a ticket to me for those, would they for loud pipes?
guess keep stock ones and put them on when your going for a ride.. \\; im all for being quiet. but m i think you should be able to put loud pipes on your bike just dont sit at a light and rev your engine that pisses everyone off. but riding normally think it shouldnt matter.
i have vance &\\; hines on my fatboy bubs on rocker and rienharts on ultra .. i dont think anyone should say you cant have these pipes on your bikes.. as far as helments go if your gonna wear one shouldnt it be DOT \\; otherwise why where one at all. \\; just my 2 cents worth

The funniest thing happened driving up there. \\; We were about an hour away doing some great backroads when we stopped on the side of the road in middle of nowhere to pee. \\; A pickup stopped and asked if we needed any help and told us about the road blocks and check points. \\; He told us to make sure we hid our weed and stuff before going up there! \\; We laughed our asses off.

It's good to vent on this forum so as to inform others as to what's happening to us \\;but if \\;issues such as this are not \\;brought to the attention of "whoever" can make changes then all is \\;for naught and \\;our \\;sport will just continue to be \\;under scrutiny from the \\;so called 'law enforcement'... \\;To Serve And Protect people. \\; \\; \\;
