To use your logic then the cops should everyday have a roadblock and check all the cars for legal exhaust (get rid of the boom cans), bald tires, updated state inspection and registration, all lights in working order, all seat belts in working order and worn by occupants, ask everyone where they are going, check their licenses for currency and proper endorsements.

There is a clause in the bill of rights about interfering with commerce and court rulings about travel on the roadways are covered. \\; Again, this is clearly a violation of the constitution ...given previous court rulings. \\; They are doing it because no one is challenging them and motorcyclists are a minority in this society.

Yardstick- I think your right. \\; There has been allot of good discussion here, and I hope we can keep it going. \\; That said I cannot change New York I have no vote there. \\; But it scares me when folks say they are ok being rounded up like sheep and if you do nothing wrong or your exhaust is whisper quite stock \\;then there is nothing to worry about with it. \\; That is very dangerous thinking in my opinion. Its exactly how our Government(s) wants you to think these days!

So I have to ask, how many that have aftermarket exhaust or a non-dot heads \\;feel check points are ok, and if you get a ticket from one you deserved it for just simply \\;cruising down the highway. \\; And well, the LEO is just doing his job. \\; \\; \\; Maybe so, but the State is simply molesting taxes out of the biker or they would be giving warnings. \\; I would venture to say 8 out of 10 Harley Davidsons have aftermarket Mufflers thats a cash cow in this scenario. \\; And we know there will always be people running alternative mufflers.

I have no problem with random checkpoints (DWI etc.) as they do address an issue that puts others (aside from the veh. oper.) at risk, and MAINLY they do not target a specific vehicle type. \\; When LEO's are tasked with serving some politicos BS agenda under the guise of public safety, that's a different story. \\; I've never been accused of being the sharpest tool in the shed but it seems that there might be one or two "crimes" where those man hours would be better spent that are more in line with the "publics interest". \\; Hell, they could start with those damn illegal urine peddlers in Vermont\\; truely a crime against humanity! \\; I've been around a couple of bikes and I've yet to witness the 'loud' pipe on a passing bike explode a pedestrian's head, except, of course, those that weren't wearing a DOT hat

NYS trooper on Monday was in a school zone doing 35+, but the bikes are a problem? Even the NYS trooper's wife's get badges - what do you think they are for NO TICKETS issued once shown.
 \\;- No, NYS Troopers wife's are not issued shields. A retired Members spouse gets a retirement shield when the Member retires. This is issued by the union. It is given out to the spouse for 20 + years of having to deal with all the B*** S*** that that the spouse has to deal with.

 \\;- Understand, that the rank &\\; file on the road checks in most cases do not agree with a lot of these decisions. The NYSP is a para military organization, as such, orders are given and expected to be followed. These road checks are coming straight from Albany and the Gouvernors Traffic Safety Council. Are they trying to save life's, (ie helmets), maybe. Is there another motive also (loud pipes etc - $), well, your guess is as good as mine.

 \\;- Get involved. Join the AMA, write you representatives &\\; the news paper. I personally like a good sounding exhaust, but most of the non biker population does not. Might not be too much sympathy from the non biker community, that is until the next idea involves checking RV's Campers, boats etc. God knows what they will come up with next.
