The recall was for the ealry FLHX's had mirror holes drilled in wrong position, supposedly gave you a nice view of the back of the hand. The fix was to reposition your mirrors and I guess leave a hole in the inner fairing or replace the inner fairing completly .... dont understand why they would even offer the first fix pretty sure everyone would want a complete new inner fairing with no extra holes

I like the fairing mounted ones on my SG. A little time to get used to them but they really clean up the handlebar area. Worst case scenario you put your handlebar mounted ones back on and drive with 4 mirrors!

I love them - Much wider angle of view and an all around cleaner look - The template they come with makes it a breeze to install but just don't tighten the screws tooooooo tight or you will add vibration. Mine are steady as a rock and the view is perfect. The holes that are left from the the stock mirrors can be used for GPS or Satellite radio or dare I say.......A cup holder

Ok, you guys that have them say that you like them. Did you do the installation yourself or at the dealer? DIY, whats involved in removing the inner fairing? I don't want to do a tear down for these if it will be easier for the dealer to do it. They mess up, they fix it. I mess up it costs me mo $$$$$$$.

I put my own on(not in the pic),and they were simple.I thought the directions they give you were not great, but it's pretty easy to figure out.
The fairing is held on by(I think this is right) 7 screws,3 at the windshield,2 on the sides, and 2 underneath.Get a flashlight, turn the bars one way,and look in,you'll see them.Just take your time.

On a side note,I saw a EG last weekend with some fairing mounted mirrors, that I liked better. They sit a little higher(would be sitting right above)than these. They were made by Arlen Ness, smaller, but I liked the location more.

These are the Arlen Ness mirrors. A little different, but they look like a better (or another) option.

Man - The **** I learn here - I love those Arlen Ness mirrors. They are a lot more money but assuming they don't stick out too far they look really slick. Mood Swing is right - You don't remove the inner fairing you remove the outer. If you have never done that it is not hard but I think it's a pain in the *** and I have done it at least 6 times now. There are 7 screws. Getting it off is easy compared to getting it back on - It's easy to get frustrated and cross some threads and if you don't use a torque wrench you can easily strip out the threads. Don't let this scare you though. I am only reasonably good with wrenches and I can do it no problem. The service manual is a huge help so if you have that dive right in. The template that comes with the mirrors makes things a breeze and I started with a real small bit and drilled pilot holes and stepped up to the drill bit size they say to use. Make sure you use the right size bit. While you fairing is off consider a Brighter head light bulb, hidden antenna, Satellite radio antenna and even a Toll Pass (I live in the land of EZ PASS) - I have all that tucked away in my fairing plus I put the mirrors in. I also changed out the windshield. Hopefully I can save you from opening it up as many times as I did! Take your time putting the front fairing back together. You have to have it all lined up perfect and they you will be good to go....................I really wish I saw those Ness Mirrors before -maybe next year! PM me if you get jammed up - No worries!

Never have had the stock mirrors on my Ultra. Had the dealer put on the fairing mounted ones when I bought the bike. But love em any way.

Hey Kess, good idea with EZ Pass under the fairing. The next time I open it up, I'm gonna slap it under there. Exit 157 LOL

For the best visibility, W0575 Wild1 handle bars with the stock mirrors. Far better than my buddies bike, also an EG with the fairing mounted mirrors.
