Fairing mount mirrors
I had them on my old EG Classic and I really liked them. To me, they streamlined the look of the bike form the front, but the best thing about them was that my shoulder did not fill up half the viewing area of the mirror (like it was w. stock mirrors).
THe only issue I had, was that the plastic housing around the rounded edges of both mirrors cracked after a year or so. This happened on both of them. When I asked the dealership about it, they replaced them with little resistance. To me, it was worth the $$$ and drilling the holes.

The recall was for the ealry FLHX's had mirror holes drilled in wrong position, supposedly gave you a nice view of the back of the hand. The fix was to reposition your mirrors and I guess leave a hole in the inner fairing or replace the inner fairing completly .... dont understand why they would even offer the first fix pretty sure everyone would want a complete new inner fairing with no extra holes

My dealer gave me a complete new inner fairing and wrapped my mirrors in bubble wrap so I could install them myself or buy chrome mirrors. I am pretty sure the dealers are allowed to do the new inner fairing by the MOCO; can't believe my dealer would eat the cost on their own.
Oh, and my vote: The fairing mounted mirrors just didn't do it for me so I got some laser-etched chrome ones.

Man - The **** I learn here - I love those Arlen Ness mirrors. They are a lot more money but assuming they don't stick out too far they look really slick. Mood Swing is right - You don't remove the inner fairing you remove the outer. If you have never done that it is not hard but I think it's a pain in the *** and I have done it at least 6 times now. There are 7 screws. Getting it off is easy compared to getting it back on - It's easy to get frustrated and cross some threads and if you don't use a torque wrench you can easily strip out the threads. Don't let this scare you though. I am only reasonably good with wrenches and I can do it no problem. The service manual is a huge help so if you have that dive right in. The template that comes with the mirrors makes things a breeze and I started with a real small bit and drilled pilot holes and stepped up to the drill bit size they say to use. Make sure you use the right size bit. While you fairing is off consider a Brighter head light bulb, hidden antenna, Satellite radio antenna and even a Toll Pass (I live in the land of EZ PASS) - I have all that tucked away in my fairing plus I put the mirrors in. I also changed out the windshield. Hopefully I can save you from opening it up as many times as I did! Take your time putting the front fairing back together. You have to have it all lined up perfect and they you will be good to go....................I really wish I saw those Ness Mirrors before -maybe next year! PM me if you get jammed up - No worries!

word to the wise on that E-Z pass placement..... Write down the Numbers of that Little bugger, when it stops working or shifts the toll doesn't get read and you stand there with money {full Price} in hand. I wrote mine # on my insurance card just in case it happens again !!
Yuk, those Arlen Ness mirrors are rather ugly, they don't flow into the lines of the faring like the HD mirrors.
I like my fairing mounts - they look tons better and vibrate less than stock.

These are the Arlen Ness mirrors. A little different, but they look like a better (or another) option.

Good opinions all. Very positive feed back. I have been looking at other bikes (I'm on a mission ya know) and I do like the cleaner look of the fairing mount mirrors. The Arlen Ness mirrors are nice but not as clean of a line on the fairing. What I saw that looks the best was a Glide with a 10 inch windshield (I meassured), fairing mount mirrors and the chopped tour trunk. I looked clean and more streamlined. My eyes were decieved enough to think the bike had more leanability. It sorta took the bike out of the "bulk cruiser class" and slipped it into the "frigate class".
