Mapping?
Does anyone know or ever heard of "mapping" a bike? from what I hear, it's like a dyno test. I've adde an air cleaner and Rinehart pipes so I guess the bike needs to be re-tune and someone told me this is what I would have to do... Input on mapping? thanks!!!
The way I understand it in simple terms is mapping allows the bike to be fine tuned. \\; They are a bit lean from the factory. \\; Because the newer bikes have all the electronics on it for engine control a Power Commander or Harley Racer Tuner (and there are others) but be added. \\; These units allow the tuner to enhance the settings to make the bike run better and the dyno is the quickest way to do it accross the RPM scale.

There are a few options to "mapping" your bike. \\; You can either go with the Harley Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT) or a non-harley tuner. \\; There are a few options out there. \\; I have a SERT on my 08 FLHTCUI and had a Power Commander on my 05 FLHT. \\; The Power Commander is cheaper. \\; There are a few more vendors to choose from. \\; I would do some research by Googling SERT and Power Commander to learn more about when and why you might need one. \\; I understand that if you add aftermarket pipes and a Stage I kit\\; it is time to consider "mapping" your bike.
Mapping or downloading a map is a way of making the fuel system work better because now your bike is breathing better and needs more fuel to keep it from leaning out too much. You need the stage one map fr your bike which is cheaper than having it put on a dyno. Not sure that you get quite as good of results but it is half the price and is better for your bike than doing nothing.
