Default clutch replacement

I tried a search on this and didn't really get any answers so will try here.
&nbsp\\;
I have a 2003 FLHTCI and have had problems with clutch adjustment in the past.
I don't ride the clutch, or powershift etc.&nbsp\\;but there always seems to be 1/2 inch of play on my
clutch handle and sometimes there is a louder then usual clunk when changing gears.
&nbsp\\;
The last indy I took it to said I should consider a new clutch because the plates were
at 50% .&nbsp\\; The HD dealer just keeps adjusting it.
&nbsp\\;
What do you see as the problem and what would a new clutch run me?
&nbsp\\;
Thanks
&nbsp\\;
Dennis

Dennis, 1/2 inch of play is too much.
I'm almost certain it's not the plates.
How does your indy know the plates were at 50%
(did he take a look) ???
Sounds like the adjustment is not correct.
I have 45K on my '99 Road King and the plates are fine.
Take a look at these video's (you can do it yourself)

Good video. One thing about the plates, if its been slipping or has been out of adjustment for a while the plates could be warped and sticking. They could need replacement for this reason. The way to tell is when at a stop in gear with clutch in is rev it up and see if the bike creeps, another way is when you first fire up a cold bike and put it in gear, it lurches from the plates sticking. This is after making sure the clutch is adjusted properly first. Good luck.
