I just hate bringing my bike nto the stealers for anything. \\; I want to install passing lamps but am not sure if I can do it myself. I've installed my Rinehart TD's, SE A/C, flashed my own map using my Super SERT but have never got into anything electrical. Stealer wants $170 to do it. Thats just labor obviously. \\; I think I can handle the hardware but am not sure about getting into the wiring harness. Anyone else install their own passing lights and was it hard to do?
If you don't have it yet, get a service manual. It'll prove to be alot of help as long as you own your bike. \\; I've got one for our RK and the Sportster. \\; I used the sportster manual a couple of weeks ago when I put the passing lamps on it. \\; Used it to find the accessory wire in the wiring harness so the lights would stay on all the time.
I have a '05 rk custom. It didn't come with passing lamps, either. I really wanted them for the added light at night. I do have a manuel, but found that the instructions that came with the kit were more than enough. It was very simple to do. One thing that you may run across, that I did, was since our bikes do not come with an installed lightbar, you may have to hook up the switch. All the wires are there, but mine were not connected. As I said, very simple to do. With what you have done to your bike, I think you are thinking to hard about it... Good luck. Do it yourself, and save the money...
Just do it yourself. \\; Just \\;installed the passing lights on my \\;SG last week only took a couple of hours from start to finish. \\; Electrical wiring is not that difficult to understand. \\; If you \\;decide to \\;DIY and need some help just let me know.

My RK custom had the plugs to the switch under the nacelle and the Light bar was terminated, the electrical part was literally plug and go. \\; I had to by the longer studs and the rubber grommet kit separately. \\; I was a very easy install.

Exactly! \\; Very easy to do on a RK. \\; I did it on my Ultra and it was easy as well. \\; \\; As PapaTravis said, the instructions that come with it are actually quite helpful and so were the guys in the forum.
