Default wiring aux/passing lights to work with high beams?

I bought an aux light set for my sportster that I haven't installed yet, but I've read through the instructions to get an idea of what I'm in for.

If I do the wiring following the instructions, the aux lights will only be able to operate with my low beams on... but I would like them to work with either low or high beams. Has anyone done this? If so, how?

Also, the instructions imply this may be "against the law" in some areas. I'm curious if anyone knows more about that. It seems counter-intuitive that a bike could be *too visible*, what areas restrict this and how strictly is it enforced?

Not sure if there are still areas in the US that high beam and running lights are illegal.

I know HD Dealerships used to NOT install this way because of the laws. However, a year or so ago dealerships started carrying a little kit that you can install that will allow the high beams and running lights to be on simultaneously.

Before they were selling their little jumper kit, it was pretty easy to wire it up that way yourself...just a matter of hooking the wires up so they can be hot regardless of the low/high beam.

If you are not comfortable tracking down how to wire it that way (with a manual or a volt meter) get the HD kit.

I've run high beams and running lights all over the country when it used to be "illegal", never had a problem from LE.

Thanks Kevin. I looked, but wasn't able to find the "kit" you mentioned in the lighting section of the HD online store... tho I imagine that I would be fine testing it out with a voltmeter, I was just worried about messing up and somehow ending up with my brights always on, or something similar.

I used a plug and play module from custom dynamics and it works with my high beams. The high beam laws around this area state you must dim them to on coming traffic within 500 feet. But I run high beams all the time and never been stopped and don't know anyone who has. It's mostly enforced for cars

Yup, I plan on installing 68603-01 at the same time... I just need to figure out how to get the aux lights working on both regular and brights before I get started.

Yours looks great tho!

I used LED's for the spots to reduce the load demand compared to the halogens and connected them to my running lights.
