Having had an 01 FLTR for several years, and now an Ultra, all I gotta say is you won't go wrong with either one. \\; I really liked the way the RG handled, it was a lot lighter feeling than the Ultra, especially at low speeds. \\; Crosswind buffeting occurs on both, but I think it is a different type of buffeting on each one. \\; On the RG, it takes a lot of wind to notice the buffeting, and the whole bike seems to get pushed around when it does happen. \\; On the Ultra with the batwing, buffeting is felt mainly on the handlebars, more like a wind vibration than getting the whole bike pushed around. \\; \\; Six of one, half a dozen of the other. \\; I do like the detachable tourpack for the RG, gives you a new look in less than a minute. \\;
The seat on my RG was the most comfortable HD seat I've ever been on. \\; \\; Better than my new Ultra. \\; BUT.... the wife didn't like her portion of the RG seat, and we wound up getting a Mustang seat that was a lot wider in the passenger area. \\; Looked OK with the tourpack on, but the bike looked like a pickup truck with that wide pillion area when the tourpack was taken off.  \\; \\;
Now if HD would just do something to spiff up the dual headlight look on the RG, its very dated.
I just last Monday bought a RG, Deep Blue Paerl, and at first I had reservations about the front fairing. \\; Today here in East Tennessee it's really windy and as I was told by the salesman about wind buffeting, the ride was great. \\; You do still get pushed around by a good stiff wind from the side, but you don't get the handlebar movement as on other bikes. \\; Also, I was surprised at how smooth the ride is. \\; Your at 75 MPH before you know it, which is why the cruise is so great.
 \\;
The only things I don't like is having to buy the Tour Pak, the seat does not suite my wife, and me being 6'3" tall, the windshield is about 4 inches too short. \\; Other than those 3 items, I am so far totally satisfied with the bike.
Both have a good ride, but My RG handled better in a crosswind or for that matter passing a semi or getting passed. With a frame muonted fairing, the wind doesn't quite effect the handle bars as much plus I think it is more aerodynamic.
