My headlight lens cracked and needed to be replaced.
 \\;
I went to the autoparts store and bought a standard automotive halogen sealed beam headlight for $20 and it fits perfectly.
 \\;
Any negatives to running a halogen instead of the original H4 assembly?
 \\;
 \\;Yes, you can do that, but you may be disapointed with the light output of the sealed beam bulb. I \\;think the light pattern of the \\;lens is different on a car bulb then a bike.
 \\;But if \\;you are happy with it, \\;fine. \\;
My choice would have been to replace the cracked lens, AND add a PIAA bulb. Then you can SEE \\; at night, going down the road.

I cracked a headlight on my old RK and found a near-new one on Ebay for $20, including shipping and an 85/100w bulb. Check around before forking over big bucks to HD for a new one.
I was several hundred miles from home at the time and there happened to be an H-D shop in my destination town. It was like 95 plus tax, and the shop counter guy installed it for that price while I paid for it up front. Not bad overall, really. I got the old bulb now as a spare, since the replacement was an entire ready-to-bolt-in assembly.
Tried \\;a Wagner \\;sealed beam light supposedly for motorcycles from the local OReilly's after a rock cracked the lens on my Dyna. \\;It lasted \\;less than \\;a month before the vibrations killed it. \\;Then I ordered an aftermarket unit with bulb for motorcycles from Cyclewarehouse for $24.99. \\; It was still working when I traded the bike.
Wow guess cracked headlights are more common than HD shop told me. After insisting they had to remove fairing and it would be a 2 hour job. Took it home removed front screw almost a plug and play item.
2 hour job wow. \\; about a 15 minute job. \\; I took a rock and paid the 100 bucks for the HD unit. but I wouldnt do it again. will be after market for sure if it happens again. \\;
