I may have worded my post wrong. \\; I was not, and am not dis-satisfied with the Metz. (150-80-16) I got 3000 more miles from the metz than the lop. I could probably get another 1000 out of it, but I never push tire wear very far. I am trying the Michelin, well, just because I have always liked Michelin products
As I said I was a Metzeler believer. I had been on my third rear tire and it was the first major failure. Latus motors here in Portland had seen a number of failures and quit selling them at the end of last summer. Mine was one of the last ones they sold. When \\;I became aware of the problems with these tires and watched my air pressure closely. The thing I would watch on any tire in the future is for stress cracking at the root of the tread blocks which I would think to be a precursor of upcoming failure.
I know it is too early to report on my new commanders because all new tires feel better than the ones you just took off because the tread hasn't warn flat in the center. There has been a lot of road construction in the area and a lot of the road surfaces have been grooved which always is something to watch for well so far I am pleased with the Michelins when it rains I will have a better test.
I just had to replace the tires on my 03 softail standard. I run Metzelers and have for years......HOWEVER........the rear tire came in was from Germany the front that came in was from Brazil.....I'm not too impressed but what can I do.....I'll just have to keep my eyes on it.
next time I have to order new tires I'm going to specifically ask for them to be from Germany...if another Brazilian one comes then I will go to another brand.
How do you tell if they are from Brazil or Germany?
It says so on the sidewall.
No problems with my 880s. Got a Brazilian on the back right now, about 5K miles, all is well. Always been happy with the 880s, might try the E3s next time just for S+Gs.
It does seem like a LOT of people run them with too little air pressure.
150/80 B 16 M/C 77H REINF TL (Metzeler 880 Marathon)
This is the proper tire for touring bikes if running a 150. It has the proper load rating and requires 48-52 psi.
(52 psi max)Made in Germany
I have this tire on my RG
I just noticed this thread. My dyna had a 880 on the front that was a little over 2 years old with 12k miles and plenty of tread left. Replaced it with a dunlop and after reading parts of this thread I'm glad I did.
