Default Metzeler 880 failure
I just took my 880 off the back of my ultra today. Yes it was a Brazilian tire no way the quality of the German made tires I had on it before. I had a major tread separation and had a chunk of tread breakaway. On inspecting the tire it had cracks at the root of each tread block to where you could see the casing. You can see the blackened part of the casing and I believe that was were the failure started it looked like it went all the way around. I noticed some additional noise coming from my tires while riding next to a concrete barrier. Luckily the casing held and did not have a blow out. I put the tire on last fall and had less than 4000 miles on it and had maintained 42 psi which was posted on the sidewall. It was a 150/16. I replaced the front and rear with Michelin commanders hope that was a better choice.

I found that the local dealers will not sell them any more nor mount them.

I purchased these same tires 4 yrs ago at a dealer in SD...wanted Avons and he talked me into these.&nbsp\\; I had the exact same problem then as you had now.&nbsp\\; Funny how problems weren't corrected.&nbsp\\; I am done with Metzlers even though they stood behind them and replaced them at no charge.&nbsp\\; Scary!

I am surprised that the DOT has not forced a recall on these dangerous tires.

Sorry to hear of your trouble.&nbsp\\; My memory on this is very vague, but I seem to recall reading that a Metz 880 150 is not load rated for Touring bikes though many use them in this application.
&nbsp\\;
If I have this wrong, my apologies\\; but it's a fuzzy recollection.

You are right the 150 has a lower load rating. I only ride one up though. The Metz 150/16 =761 pounds Dunlap 130/16 =827 The Metz brochure suggested this tire as a stage II upgrade. The Michelin 150/16 =908
