Default GPS Setup for Road King (And Others)

I finally attached the RAM Mount for my Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx to my Road King. I am very pleased with the setup. Here are some pictures.

Pics

The RAM part numbers from Cycle Gadgets are:

(1) RAM-BAR U-bolt base for 3/4" - 1" bars
(1) RAM-COMP Compact Base / Cradle Ball Adapter
(1) RAM-GPS60 R-A-M Garmin GPS60 Cradle Garmin GPS60 Cradle
(1) RAM-STDARM 3" Black R-A-M Arm
$44.05 Shipped

As for the GPS itself, more information is available here. I bought mine for $340 off ebay, and also purchased a 512M MicroSD Card to hold the maps for $40. The maps themselves cost around $100.

So for around $500 you can have a waterproof GPS with turn by turn guidance that quickly is removed for storage. I am very pleased.

I just ordered the RAM mount for my Garmin 76CS, and the extra part for my IPOD too. I think I have a total of $70.00 for all of it shipped.

Rodger,

I'm interested in the 60cx....how do you like it? Does the 512MB microSD card hold enough maps? How is the screen in the sunlight? I've heard conflicting reviews on the battery life...how's it been for you? Is the map software that you are using the City Navigator 7? Do you know if this model will accept a larger card (if they even make one)? Sorry for all the questions...I know next to nothing about GPS systems, so I'm learning as I go along...I like this unit for it's compactibility and the need to not have it hardwired to the bike. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Taking your questions inline...

I'm interested in the 60cx....how do you like it?

>Great hand feel.. Easy to manipulate menus and functions.

Does the 512MB microSD card hold enough maps?

>I have a circle of about 500 miles with detailed maps loaded. NA City Select 7.0

How is the screen in the sunlight?

>Fine without backlight

I've heard conflicting reviews on the battery life...how's it been for you?

>5-6 Hours with full backlight with a pair of double AA's from a 17 dollar NiMH Rechargeable package with 4 batts and a charger. (Frys is the best place to buy rechargables)

Is the map software that you are using the City Navigator 7?

> NA City Select Ver 7

Do you know if this model will accept a larger card (if they even make one)?

I understand that 1G work and are about 70 bucks an Ebay

Sorry for all the questions...I know next to nothing about GPS systems, so I'm learning as I go along...I like this unit for it's compactibility and the need to not have it hardwired to the bike. Thanks for any help you can provide.

>No problem. I have been a GPS Geek for a long time. GPS is a great technology, possibly the most significant of my generation.

I recently got the Garmin 2720. Mostly for the car and family trips, but thought what the hell. Ordered all the Ram stuff I need to do a mount on my RG and will be looking into that install this weekend. Im limited on where and how to mount it so I will take my time and try to come up with the best way without looking like a hack job.

I've got a Garmin 2720 I use in the car and would like to mount it on my RK, preferably in the middle area of the handlebars. What bracket (s) would I need, where would I get them, and how do I make the electrical connection? Also, in reviewing the Garmin website, it shows the 2720 for a motorcycle application but I did not see mentioned anywhere that the unit is water proof. Does anyone know if it is?
