Please bear with me, this is my first Harley after nearly 40 years of riding....
When I let out the clutch on my '08 Ultra, sometimes I hear a "click" or "clank" type sound. \\; Not sure what is making the sound... or if it's a real problem.
It doesn't do it all the time, usually coming off a stop and coming out in 1st gear, sometime it will make the sound when going from 1st to 2nd.... \\;
Could be the Primary Chain Auto Tensioner? \\; or some Clutch issue?
RE: "\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;Click"\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; when letting out clutch
Yep, my 08 FLHR does it too.... been wondering what it is.... Do both you guys have ABS like me? \\;\\\\\\; Was thinking it might be something having to do with that. \\; Neither my previous 04 Heritage Classic, nor my present 97 Heritage Springer does it.
My 07 Ultra does the same thing, but not all the time. When I had it in for the 800 km (500 mi.) service, the service mgr. said it was normal. That was before I joined this forum, so I am not so sure what normal is anymore!  \\;I made sure it was noted on the service report, so if anything does come of it I have proof that I told them about it.
I haven't been able to figure out whether it was a clutch issue or a primary issue..... but it starting to sound like, it's just a Harley thing, like the 5th gear whine.
Blessings, \\; Rob
(BTW, I love my bike.... just having to get used to the quirks)
Mine does it, too. I kind of wish it either did it all the time, or not at all. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to when it does it or when it doesn't. if anyone ever figures out a pattern I like to know.
RE: "\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;Click"\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; when letting out clutch
Check the anti-rattle spring retaining screw on the lever. You can view it from the under side of the lever. Sometimes the screw will loosen up and the clip(spring) will catch and make a click sound when you actuate the lever. Hope this helps.
RE: "\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;Click"\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; when letting out clutch
run it past a couple of dealers for piece of mind, then welcome to HD world. \\; when i bought my 07 i was listening to everything, finally i realized i was on a harley. \\; its no different then my 78FL. \\; it makes noise, it shakes, it's hot and maybe it will start to leak, but like my 78 it will run past 200k miles. \\;
RE: "\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;Click"\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; when letting out clutch
Mine does it, my freinds does it. Normal.
 \\;
Thanks guys, \\; when I go up to the dealer (100 miles away - that stinks) I will get them to look at it, but I feel good that it's a "Harley" thing after reading your posts. \\; I appreciate the input.
My biggest complaints with the '08 Ultra are the heat and the problem with the new throttle control
The heat, I've got RJ Orginal deflectors, but it still gets pretty warm. \\; Better with RJ's, but still hot. \\; Thinking of trying an oil cooler and/or true dual pipes. \\; Anyone with experience with these?
Also, the new throttle control, no standard throttle cable. \\; Sometimes, the idle gets off... it will idle at a wrong rpm or do this weird fluctuating idle. \\; Right now the only fix the dealer has is to cut the ignition switch off, then on for 10 seconds then off, then on for ten seconds, then off, then on for 10 seconds, then off then on for 10 seconds (4 cycles). \\; This puts the throttle back to default and all is good again until the next time. \\; This little deal has happened to me 4 times now. \\; It's really not a problem, more of an inconvenience. \\; I would like it fixed. \\; Hope HD is going to find a more permament fix.
