Hurt my pride yesterday
Cannot believe I did it...I felt stupid. Does Harley sell training wheels?
The day is coming when I drop it at a stoplight, howerver. On numerous occasions I've put my foot down and it slipped on gravel, a slick lane divider strip, or similar. In each case the boot grabbed in the nick of time. The day is coming, however.
While on the subject, the best recovery I've ever seen was at the '97 Sturgis Rally at a small watering hole in the Black Hills. A guy on a Dresser with wife on the back began to lose his balance while stopped at an intersection. Instead of simply letting it fall, he goosed the throttle, popped the clutch, and jumped ahead a few feet. This immediately righted the bike and recovery was complete. I was impressed to say the least and won't forget that feat of skill.
Almost exact same scenario: 2-up, steep incline, pulling into gas station, guy coming from the other side looking at the islands for an open pump instead of where he's going, it was either stop on the incline, T-Bone him or get t-boned by him, so I stopped, put my foot down, but by the time it hit pavement, the scoot was beyond the point of no return. Just dropped it on it's side, didn't have to wake momma as she rolled off. That's the one negative about a driver back rest, the passenger has a little more trouble dismounting quickly. Another driver and myself knew how to back it up - got it up, recycled the switch to get rid of the "TIP" message. Put some good gouges on about 3 or 4 places. but, everything else turned out ok - I'd rather take one at 0 MPH than a rolling one - any day.
dougbk, this is good advise. I'll remember it when I drop it again.
Here is a picture of my bike. Not a scratch, but the underside of the inspection stands do have lite scrape marks on them. Don't show, all is well!

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Push more with your legs, by pushing your butt into the seat rather than picking it up your back. \\;\\\\\\;I watched a poor soul pick his up 42 times in one day on the first day of motor school. \\;\\\\\\;OUCH! \\;\\\\\\; \\; \\\\\\;

You must have been in the same class I was ! ! !!
