ALL,
I didn't find the instuctions very helpful. \\; When I tried to remove the ECM the two hex bolts just make clicking noises when turned counterclockwise but never really came off. \\; The PCIII usb is hooked up but it is awkward. \\; The bike runs fine with the PCIII installed but the wiring is awkward. \\; The rinehart 2-1s and SE air cleaner were a breeze compared to the PCIII. \\; Please help or point me in the right direction. \\; I did a search with no luck. \\; Does the ECM need to be removed completely? \\; What the heck is the clicking sound? \\; Any picks of the thing installed? \\; I dont want to do any damage to the bike. \\; Thanks in \\;advance for any help. \\; Harry
The click is the brass insert that is molded into the plastic mounting bracket for the ECM. The ECM bolts corrode and seize in these brass inserts. Happens to most everyone. Makes removing the ECM a real b*tch. The brass inserts will pull out of the plastic so you can remove the ECM but will almost destroy the mounting bracket. You can put the inserts back in using epoxy or JB Weld but they will not hold very well.

What bike are you putting your PC III on, the 06 RK? if so, then why are you taking the ECM off? The unit will come with installations and pictures of the install. If you don't have them you can download them from www.powercommander.com

The only reason you would have to remove the ECM is to get the tie strip around it to secure the PCIII. \\; The bolts are kinda tight in there and I thought I might be messing something up to, but just turned em till they came out. \\; You can stick the plug connector up under the battery box or just tie it up \\;next to the ECM. \\; No big deal where it actually goes as long as it's out of the direct blast of weather.
I am installing the PCIII in my 2006 flht. \\; The instructions state to remove the two hex bolts that hold in ECM. \\; I just get clicking sounds and the bolts never back completely out. \\;The PCIII is connected and the bike runs fine. \\; I am worried about tightening the two hex bolts. \\; I also would like to see a pic of someones installed config as far as wires go. \\;
Yup, the brass inserts that the bolts screw in to \\;are spinning inside the plastic backing plate. That is the click you hear. The ECM bolts are seized up and will not screw out. Have done this many times. There is an air gap under the ECM so you don't have to take it off, just slip the wire ties under the ECM and around the PC III. It will be OK. Sorry but I don't have pics of an install.
Thanks all.
The bottom left hex bolt tightened up OK but the top right bolt is still clicking. \\; I wonder why the instructions say to remove these bolts when it is not necessry. \\; I bundled the wire up and the side cover goes on. They should really get the instuctions right on this. I guess it is just the price of doing business. \\; Thanks for all of your help. \\;
