Default Checking Oil

First, I've done some searches and haven't found my answer, so please don't flame me.

Bike = 2008 Ultra

I've heard some folks say to check the oil, just unscrew it, wipe of oil and re-insert the stick into the hole, don't screw it back in to the base.

I read in the manual, sort of poorly written, but seems to say, screw it back in, unscrew it and then check.

Just confused.&nbsp\\; Help would be appreciated.&nbsp\\; I know this a small thing, but what's the real story.

Thanks.

08 Touring Owners manual, page 148.
Top left side para 2.
Last sentence of para 2.
"...with the plug screwed completely into the fill spout."

This is how this forum is supposed to work IMO. No smart a$$ wanna-be comedians chiming in with comments.

Simple question . . . simple answer.

Way to go guys!
