My local dealer here in Los Angeles tells me the part # 62229-08A is the SAME one thats in the bike now and NOT an updated part...can anyone that has replaced one with this part # describe the difference in material or any obvious differences.

The -A- at the end of the part# means it's the updated part. Your bike will have the updated part if it was built after 12-07. So he may be right or he may be wrong
Changed mine last week. After seeing the old one and installing the new one, I think its not if it fails, its when it fails. Took exactly 1 hour and 2 beers to complete.
