I'm sure I read a while back that there is a new style brass insert to replace the ones in the inner fairing that you screw into to hold the two pieces of the fairing and the windshield together.
I've had one that works it's way out regularly, but I just tap it in with a plastic hammer and I'm good until the next time \\;I remove the batwing.
The new style I've heard about somehow screws in and has barbs (I think) so it can't pull out.
I'm 2 1/2 hours from the nearest Harley store and yesterday I was by there so I thought I get a couple.
The parts guy and I were unable to find anything on a new part for this application.
From 1996 to 2008 parts manuals, they all show the same number for the part, which ends in 96 and has no b or c on the end.
Am I loosing my mind on this?
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
 \\;
they havent changed them the new ones screw in and if you dont want to go 2 \\; 1/2 hr ride then order them from Zanottis or another dealer on line but order some filters or something to ease the shipping cost
GO TO \\; ANY \\; AUTO STORE \\; GET \\; 2 \\; PART EPOXY
ITLL NEVER COME LOOSE \\; AGAIN.. \\; \\;
IVE DONE \\; THIS \\; FIX \\; MANY \\; TIMES.. MANY \\; HOGS.. MANY \\;
YEARS ..
SAME JUNK \\; HD \\; PART... DONT THEY GET IT ???
Thanks everyone.
It looks like the same part 3 that we found at the dealership.
If it's the same as what's on the bike, it probably won't help to instal new ones.
Sounds like the only way to go is with the two part epoxy.
If you have the stock inserts, the 16585-96 is different. the stock insert is a press fit. and the replacement is a threaded screw in type and works much better. \\; I have already changed mine on my 07. just put the fairing screw in the insert and start it with the slotted end of the replacement insert going in first. and it will fix you right up.  \\; the epoxy will eventually break loose(ask me how I know)
