My wife and I just finished a 7,000 mile ride from Boston to Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park on our '08 Ultra. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; We have 12,000 miles now and our bike was on the recall list. \\;\\\\\\; I carried a new filter shell in the saddle bag but thank goodness never needed it. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; I'll try and have it replaced this next week. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; We had zero problems with the bike and got between 35 and 52 miles per gallon depending on headwinds, speeds. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; Great trip.
Naturally, the day before the recall was announced I changed it my self. I'm hoping that they will at least reimburse me for the shell. I have a 3000 miles trip coming up and didn't want to take a chance. BTW, mine had numerous cracks so it would have left me stranded sooner or later.
Don't know if you'll get your bucks back. Do know, for them to get there bucks back they need the bad canister to send back.
They told me yesterday that they would reimburse me for the shell I bought. I'll gladly give the bad one to them to send to HD.
Bought my Ultra about a month ago. VIN shows positive for recall. Talked to dealer head of parts department today and he said Recall is not for replacement if you haven't broke down yet. \\;I smell a rat. Also, I find it more then a coincidence that the recall comes out the same week the new bikes are revealed. I smell two stinking rats! That's why they call them stealers.
Also, same dealer told me they have only heard of this happening to one bike, and that they have sold a lot of bikes. Acted like they were clueless to the this recall, like they were in the dark about this problem. I have never much cared for being lied to.

So wouldn't that be called a warranty and not a recall

If we pay over $20K for a bike, and they were built with a bad part that has left numerous people stranded, and the maker knows this, I think it petty and cheap of them to wait until your phucked up in the middle of Goatscrew, Nowhere until they say they'll fix their problem. I would expect this from some eastern european motorcycle manufacturer, not of the premier maker in the United States. It degrades my pride in owning my bike to an extent. Love the bike, just not who's behind it, or not behind it as the case is.
