Naturally, the day before the recall was announced I changed it my self. I'm hoping that they will at least reimburse me for the shell. I have a 3000 miles trip coming up and didn't want to take a chance. BTW, mine had numerous cracks so it would have left me stranded sooner or later.
Just ran my VIN.....mine is under the recall. \\; Called my local dealer, and they don't have the kits in yet. So I've got to cross my fingers and hope it don't die before they get them in.
Bought the filter shell last week and was just about ready to replace it today. Can just the filter canister shell \\;be replaced without the rest of the kit (what all is in the KIT) \\;or do I have to wait for them to get the whole kit?
The VIN number is also on your insurance card for easy access.
There are one or more open safety recalls or product improvement campaigns on your vehicle. The following list contains the campaign number and a brief description:
Recall Notice: 0135: 2008 FL TOURING FILTER SHELL
We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.
Nice that the appropriate recall is finally in place. It would have been nicer if they would have fixed it at my 5000 mi service instead of it failing 70 miles from home.
My wife and I just finished a 7,000 mile ride from Boston to Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park on our '08 Ultra. \\; \\; We have 12,000 miles now and our bike was on the recall list. \\; I carried a new filter shell in the saddle bag but thank goodness never needed it. \\; \\; I'll try and have it replaced this next week. \\; \\; We had zero problems with the bike and got between 35 and 52 miles per gallon depending on headwinds, speeds. \\; \\; Great trip.

Don't know if you'll get your bucks back. Do know, for them to get there bucks back they need the bad canister to send back.
