Bought my Ultra about a month ago. VIN shows positive for recall. Talked to dealer head of parts department today and he said Recall is not for replacement if you haven't broke down yet.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\;I smell a rat. Also, I find it more then a coincidence that the recall comes out the same week the new bikes are revealed. I smell two stinking rats! That's why they call them stealers.
So wouldn't that be called a warranty and not a recall
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
If we pay over $20K for a bike, and they were built with a bad part that has left numerous people stranded, and the maker knows this, I think it petty and cheap of them to wait until your phucked up in the middle of Goatscrew, Nowhere until they say they'll fix their problem. I would expect this from some eastern european motorcycle manufacturer, not of the premier maker in the United States. It degrades my pride in owning my bike to an extent. Love the bike, just not who's behind it, or not behind it as the case is.
My point was if the service guy tells you the recall is just for bikes that have broken down. Thats what the warranty fixes. A recall is when they call the bikes back to replace the part before they brake down. Your service guy is the one who is wrong not the Moco. The moco did the right thing. It just took to long.

Your dealer was lying to you about waiting for it to crap out before replacement.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; This is how the recall reads:
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Recall Notice: 0135: 2008 FL TOURING FILTER SHELL

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.

Thanks Dawg! This is terrific news. Mine has a build date of 12/18/07 (same as Xtrooper) and it came up clean on the VIN service check link.

After the initial reports that the affected model included all those built in 07, I went ahead and ordered the part and scheduled an appointment in a week to have mine replaced as a preventative measure. Nice to know that that won't be necessary.
